[Experiment] Making Cheering Easier
For a limited time, within a select number of channels, we’re testing a different way to Cheer through direct purchase Cheering.
Direct purchase Cheering allows you to unlock a fun community benefit through monetary payment, rather than through Bits. This experiment is only available to select creators and you must be located in the U.S. to participate. If you have any further questions please refer to our help article (https://help.twitch.tv/s/article/cheering-experiment-2022?language=en_US)
We look forward to hearing your feedback on this!

Cheering doesn't impact Hype trains which makes me sad... That is my favorite benefit beyond general support of the channel. Please make sure that is a part of the cheer if you keep it around!

I'm very sad to hear about this. I just finished making 2 batches of bit badges for 2 of my favourite streamers and now I don't even know if it's going to last. Even if you ignore the fact that twitch takes a higher cut from the creators (which you shouldn't) there is still so much hard work tied in with bits that is now all for nothing.

Terrible. It removes the ability to earn bit emotes, it removes all of the fun StreamLabs tie-ins, it removes the ability to earn bit badges, it removes a way to get to the top of the bits leaderboard, the way to earn more channel points once a month via bits, the way to summon hype trains... it's just poorly implemented.
And let's be honest, it's just a flimsy way to take the cost of the Payment Company's cut away from Twitch and back to the streamer. I pay $1.40 for 100 bits, the streamer gets $1, and Twitch and the payment company get the remaining $0.40. Now, I pay $1.00 and the streamer only gets... what, $0.30 tops? And the payment company takes the same amount either way, which means Twitch now gets more back. Incredibly rude to take money away from your employees like that.

You know why you want this. You want this because you get to take your cut from creators instead of viewers. But you know where you screwed up? By taking your cut from the viewer buying the bits, you allied with us, because both of us wanted to get gratuity from the viewer, and based on the quality of the content, it allied us with the viewer. Everyone agreed, we wanted to grab some cash, and throw it around, everyone was happy. Now you're forcing this on people, and you can only opt out, and only before a certain date (and you can't opt out anyone now... why?) so if you miss the email you're just screwed. If your monetization requires bits (mischief Maker, Blerp, soundalerts, Throwing system, etc) you now SIGNIFICANTLY complicate the situation for the viewer who now has to go and find a place on twitch where they can buy said bits, then return to the stream to use them. You and your think tanks know as well as we do if you make a user leave your space, they probably aren't coming back. We know what you're trying to do. You don't get a cut when we put a paypal link on our panels, and you want that cut. You're not getting that cut. Our viewers trust us, and the fact that they despise twitch's management has NOTHING to do with streamers, unless you count streamers giving them transparent answers.

I think it's strange in your help article Twitch doesn't mention how this would improve the experience for Viewers and Content Creators. I can't possibly see how taking away the ability for creators to establish and customize their own brand is advantageous for the platform.
From my standpoint Twitch is out of touch on how Bits are being used. It also seems Twitch is confused on the difference between donating bits and tipping.

Please don't do this to your creators. Please keep bits the way they were.

Not a fan of this at all. Not only are you taking even more money from your creators, but I've also had viewers say that they miss the interactivity of using Bits. Many streamers have a bunch of different alerts for various amounts of Bits that their viewers love to use, and this "streamlining" completely negates that.
As I saw in another comment, you knew this was a bad idea, which is why you made it an opt-out only experiment through email - an email I had the misfortune of missing before the opt-out time.
So do us ALL a favor. Don't. :)

I don't like using this word often, but I Hate this experiment, All the bits I bought, $300 worth, I can't use now in the channels I want. It is way too much like YouTube cheering. It's not as interactive as bits are, I don't like that it shows a direct monetary value, I will admit, I'm not a fan of change, but this I do not like at all.
Thank you, -

This is garbage. You know it's garbage.
How do I know? It was an email only opt-out random experiment. You knew no one would want to test this voluntarily, so you went this very predatory route, which makes it clear you knew it would be poorly received.
It removes granularity and transparency, will probably reduce the overall amount creators receive, and it is just so clearly a cash grab that it's wild to me anyone thought even trying it was a worth it. All the creators I have seen with it have hated every bit of it, or they would if bits were still a thing on their channels anyway.

MzDunk commented
I do not mind this being an option on our channel but please do NOT remove bits entirely.

Streamers deserve better. Revert it back to how it was, it's bad enough you're taking what you are now from streamers.

You’re effectively hurting streamers with this new system by taking money that they earned from them. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Give full amount to streamer. Keep as it was

Who except an investor asked for this trash tier disaster of a feature?
Name one streamer, I'll wait :) -

Whoever thought this was a good idea should be fired. Also the fact that it’s opt-out instead of opt-in is really predatory imo.
Also it doesn’t count toward hype trains and we can’t use pre-existing bit money on it??? Who thought that was smart? It’s almost like y’all don’t like streamers OR viewers.

Jesus Christ delete this program immediately. I doubt you even look at this feedback but this is an abhorrent program that just hurts everyone you're trying to "improve" for. Like honestly who thought this was a good idea? At least give a post-FORCED opt in (because people don't read all your emails) opt out option for when the people inevitably decide that they hate how you're running your platform, a place they love, into the pits.
-
GrinningHazard commented
Frankly I can't believe that Twitch forced this on people instead of making it an opt in experience.
And it could've easily been tested alongside bits without BREAKING countless channels and ruining our user experiences. And no idea how LONG this will run? This is punishing to streamers still working to build an audience and the only thing this has accomplished so far is make me wish there were better platforms to use until this is over.

This program is actually garbage.
Not only did this get added to my channel without my consent or approval it strips my community of their freedom to donate what they can afford, OR to participate in hype trains... AND you take an additional take of my revenue ON TOP of charging the viewer to purchase the bits?I'm sure your accounting department thought this was a GREAT idea. But I want this gone from my channel.

Worst idea ever. some channels have set up sound alerts/gifs that are set to a certain amount of bits that now cannot be triggered due to this dumb improvement. Do you know how many streamers this is going to eff over?!?!
