First Time Chatters
Allow the channel.chat.message EventSub subscription to include if it is the first time the user has sent a message in the given channel.
We can see this with IRC but not EventSub.
I understand only broadcasters or moderators can normally see that directly from native twitch chat without extensions, so possibly a scope or moderator status would be required.
It would just be nice to retain that information because it is useful for streamers who might use chatbots to respond to first time chatters with a welcome message. Also it is useful for moderation tools to see if a flood of first time chatters are 'raiding', and let moderators using 3rd party chat clients be able to see the new chatters as well.

A year later and this still hasn't been added. What's going on, Twitch? Especially for a feature that has become common for users to interact with via extensions to see highlighted first-time chats, it's baffling that this hasn't been ported properly to EventSub even when it exists everywhere else. You seem to want to phase out IRC, but you won't let us switch to EventSub without this single critical value.

Please add this. None of us want to maintain dual Twitch implementations (IRC + EventSub).
The data is obviously available. Your internal API has it, the IRC has it. Exposing it to the Event Sub API feels closer to a one-line change than a 100-line change.
Get an intern on it, please! lol

Right now im running IRC + EventSub but as there is no "First time chatter" flag in EventSub i cant switch to EventSub completly. That sucks !

I am currently running an IRC + EventSub hybrid and I was going to get rid of IRC and fully migrate to EventSub. However, I need the first time chatter flag, to auto ban most of the usual spam bots. Without that flag I cannot migrate. Please add this!

Please add this, it will be really helpful for moderation. :D

Very respectfully, I feel this is somewhat a critical feature disparity for apps and tools using eventsub. It's been over 2 years, could this please be addressed?

Yes, please add the ability to see a flag for first time chatters.
It's a shame this is something Twitch gets to expose as a feature in the Streamer Dashboard and we're unable to leverage it through EventSub.
It's also helpful as a security feature to be able to keep an eye on new chatters for a time.

This would be useful for us too. We have automations in our game that use various twitch events, and one of the more requested ones is for First Time Chatter in chat.
Currently we don't use the IRC chat and would very much like to use this via EventSub to detect first time chatters.
Would be very appreciated if it were added!

Currently trying to migrate from IRC to EventSub, this is still missing from it right?

Not having parity is a bit absurd. People, such as myself, have built welcome mechanisms that depend on first time chatter notifications.

I agree with the previous posters, I think this data is important to have, even if it's just locked behind the right scopes. 99% of the messages that contain spam, the classics like bigf[...] that everyone knows are first time chatters. Classic filters are a bit limited, as those wanting to get the message though often find some way around it, or just register yet another domain, etc.

I have a particularly nasty serial harasser who targets multiple channels I mod for, and is getting around basically every protection we can throw at them. At this point, they are even abusing a bug with the twitch UI that makes it impossible to remove their messages or ban them after they post. We have to leave their messages, or disrupt everyone ELSE in chat (in either case, they "win", disrupting things for everyone).
The one benefit so far is that they are still commenting immediately using accounts that show up as first time chatters. I want to build a tool that can specifically use first time chatters to track what messages to purge & users to time out/ban.
As is however, I would have to manually build an index of what chatters have shown up before, which takes quite a long time to reach any level of accuracy on who is actually new or not.

With IRC being phased out, I'm really surprised this isn't included yet.

Was looking for this today as well, I guess in 3/2025 it's still not available, I was trying to migrate from IRC to EventSub as well and thought EventSub had feature parity with IRC but I guess not.

Throwing my hat in the ring for this one too! It seems to be helpful for both moderation and thoughtful engagement, and hopefully a small lift for the engineers 🤞

Thirded. Almost done with prepping conduits for chat... and this stops it.

I second this HARD. It was very nice to work with it and it lacking now versus IRC is disappointing.
If its about scopes/rights, just add this info only when user_id in the condition is mod/broadcaster in the channel, but please please include this info. -

This is pretty important to have, IMO. From my experience, a large amount of ban worthy messages are first time messages, so having some way to make them stand out is very useful.
I'd like to migrate from IRC to EventSub, but this alone is enough to stop me.
