Power Regression Issue on Twitch in Chromium-Based Browsers (143 Stable)
Hi Twitch,
Recently, we observed a 40%+ power consumption regression when users visit Twitch page (e.g., sample page: https://www.twitch.tv/twitch/clip/CrispyJollyGullHassaanChop-nPlLKGxGRcBj37e4) with Chrome / Edge v143 or newer on Windows. This regression creates a noticeably worse battery life experience for Twitch users.
Although Twitch’s source code is obfuscated, preventing a full inspection, our experiments show that disabling all invisible CSS animations can remove the regression. Through Chrome DevTools, we identified a likely source in a file similar to: 1882-89946-7e817d31.js (file name may vary). The relevant code snippet is shown below. Removing the infinite attribute from the animation definition prevents the regression by stopping the animation from looping indefinitely. We hope this information helps the Twitch engineering team quickly locate the affected code and determine the best way to mitigate the issue.
(function(e) {
return e.$animated && (0,
i.AH)(['&::before{content:"";position:absolute;top:0;left:100%;width:calc(100% + ', "px);min-width:", "px;height:100%;background-image:linear-gradient( to right,transparent,", ",transparent );background-size:", "px 100%;background-repeat:no-repeat;animation:", " 2s ", "ms ease-out infinite forwards;}"], 115, 115, (0,
s.b)("color-background-placeholder"), 115, p, 300)
}
Please feel free to let us know if you need additional reproduction data, traces, or a more detailed technical breakdown. We’re happy to collaborate further.
Best regards,
