Just wanted to update this thread that we are doing an experiment right now with Stream Display Ads! These are less disruptive ads that allow viewers to see and hear Creators while being displayed. Creators will receive ad revenue for each SDA shown. You can find out more information here: https://twitter.com/TwitchSupport/status/1603148201489580032

There has been an ongoing issue where followers have been getting “forced” unfollows. I have had multiple viewers who I KNOW they were following and they KNOW they were following but they are seeing that they are needing to refollow or that they have been removed from the channel without knowledge.
I know, followers come and go. That’s not what I’m talking about now. What I am talking about is, a follower who comes into chat every stream who, one day finds that they are no longer following. Not by their own doing. Mods, friends, loyal followers/viewers have had this happen.
Please look into it and fix. Losing a follower when the follower doesn’t even know they were forced to unfollow is not good.
And no, they were not banned, not timed out, not blocked. Simply removed as a follower against their will.

The reason this idea won’t work is because then everyone will be just doing follow for follow. If you get the follows but don’t have any viewers except for yourself, then ad revenue will be low as well as any other potential growth. Best thing to do is to market yourself accordingly, everywhere and anywhere (not on others streams) and request people pull your stream up first and keep you tabbed. As well as if they are comfortable to type in chat once every so often.
But as far as twitch doing away with viewer counts, that will never happen. Active viewers is how twitch gets paid for ads. Adtrackers and such. If no one watches the ad, then twitch doesn’t get paid, and in turn, the streamer.

The only way I see them doing this is limiting the amount of mods per stream based on viewers or followers to the channel as well as how often the channel is live. Much like a tiered plan.
Tier 1 - 3 mods
Tier 2 - 5 mods
Tier 3 - 9 mods
Tier 4 - 12 mods
Tier 5 - 15 mods
More over, I’d also think if they could, they’d make it so that mods don’t get ads at the same exact time. Where you will always have one mod who is available and not blacked out by ads.
IF they were to modify how ads are used on mods and editors, I think this would be the way they would go about it.
At the end of the day it comes down to numbers and ad revenue.
For the record I do agree that mods shouldn’t have ads at all, however, I just don’t see twitch doing it because then money would be lost and streamers would abuse it by making an unlimited amount of mods to get around ad breaks.
I also know when I’m modding in the mod or editor dashboard I don’t get ads. At least I haven’t seen any.
The other way would be to instead of full screen ads, mods only receive banner ads. That would be ideal too.
