Absence of Escalation When Auto-Review Fails to Identify Follow Bot Activity
There is a clear and concerning gap in the moderation process when the auto-review system fails to identify obvious follow bot activity.
In a recent incident, more than 80 accounts exhibiting clear indicators of bot behaviour were reported over a 24-hour period. Each and every report was returned with “no violation found.” Based on prior experience, this outcome is not consistent with how similar cases are typically handled, and it strongly indicates a failure within the automated review system.
More critically, there is no meaningful escalation pathway when this occurs. Attempts to resolve the issue through chat support did not result in any form of manual review or intervention, and the guidance provided was limited to having the affected account holder submit a request themselves. This does not address the underlying issue, which is the apparent failure of the review system at scale.
When automated systems fail to detect violations of this nature, there must be a mechanism for moderators or users to escalate the matter for human review. Without such a process, there is effectively no remedy in situations where the system produces incorrect outcomes, leaving channels vulnerable during sustained bot attacks.
A reliable escalation pathway is not optional here. It is essential to maintaining trust in the reporting system and ensuring that legitimate moderation concerns are properly addressed.
