Equal and fair treatment for Vtubers moderation and transparency
Hello Twitch!
My name is Clawmaster and I am a Vtuber in the the Vtuber community and in the past month of September 2024, there has been a mass amounts of bans that has been placed on specifically Vtubers more so then usual. There is a growing concern within the Vtubing community is that we feel that Twitch is not equally handing out these bans rightfully.
Below I will link in the timestamps of Elara covering the entire situation in her Vtuber News show going over the amount of bans that have been handed out unjustly to give more context to the situation.
https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2254228516?t=01h37m20s
The biggest thing not only Vtubers have been asking for, but everyone on this site wants and needs is more transparency in regards to what we can do to make our streams fit to what Twitch is needs and wants out of us. For as long as Twitch has been around, there has always been this aura of Twitch's rules and enforcement and everyone on the platform guessing what is right, and what is wrong. If Twitch wants to grow, and get more money, then help us, help you do that by being transparent with us. Without the streamers alone, Twitch will not be where it is today.
So I am asking you Twitch, we need better moderation of Vtubers since there seems to be a very distinct difference in how bans are handed out to Vtubers as to normal streamers on twitch, and if this continues, there will be more outcry from the community and will continue to voice our opinions to you until this issue is fixed. Mostly every Vtuber on this platform loves Twitch, and would like to stay here and the community at large, and all everyone wants is to make Twitch better at its job so you can thrive just as much as the Vtuber has in the past 4 years since it has blown up on the internet.
If your a vtuber reading this, share this around, post this on every reddit, forum, tweet, and get this up so that Twitch can take a look at this, and possibly reach out and ask for a meeting with us to discuss the current issue of affairs that is directly affecting a community that we all love to keep growing and thriving on the platform.
Thank you.

The fact that vtubers are targeted for showing skin, while cam streamers can get away with doing much worse, is unacceptable. Vtubing has been given the short end of the stick while the MOST cam streamers get is a slap on the wrist. This double-standard has to stop. Either enforce the same moderation on cam streamers, or allow vtubers to do the same. This has to change and has to change now.

I call for the return of really human feedback from a real human moderator/team representative. Automation and AI should not replace human effort to convey a clear and concise message pertaining to transparency and constructive feedback on where a vtuber can stand to improve as far as the rules go. We are entertainers and want nothing more than to abide by the structured guidance of the platform regulations, but please be reasonable. We are not artificial, nor are we bots. Just because we choose to entertain as toon-like avatars doesn't mean there isn't a real human doing the animating. Please do not silence us senselessly. And if it is indeed just a glitch in your system, take this as a lesson in that heavily relying on automation will only lead you in a much deeper hole and any positive reputation you have will be in shreds. Get real humans to fix your systems, and behind transparent feedback when giving out warnings and suspensions. Within reason.

What's happening comes across as a low-key attempt to control how content creators present themselves; "Face-cam only, no toons" and in the process tramples freedom of expression. This was never about lewd content- Twitch wouldn't exist without it. Add to that the irresponsible use of automation where a bad-faith actor can themselves automate tripping the bot, and there's no meaningful review by an actual human until the content creator has been destructively impacted. A human MUST be engaged in the earliest stages once the flags are triggered and BEFORE the content creator is impacted. Content creators are not in jeopardy here; Twitch is. This is our effort to preserve Twitch. Creators /will/ find a place for their brand. Twitch is still an option.

more ways to refute/disprove bans
for example, screenshot of your PayPal transaction history, a image comparing the twitch decency TOS to one's own design. then have this appeal looked at by a human. if the recipient can clearly prove that they did not in fact commit the crime, they should be apologized to and the ban undone. take or leave this last one but it might be nice for you to give like 5 bits to anyone falsely accused to play with, it might not be much but it's something, you know?

Things I would like to see from Twitch:
- transparent reasons for banning
- real people looking over bans, not AI
- Absolutely NO AI looking over appeals
- a note saying WHO the support person who reviewed the ban is
- even application of rules between IRL streamers and vtubers -

Twitch moderation needs an overhaul and probably some oversight.

I am not a vtuber, but I know quite a few -- and both vtubers I know /and/ IRL streamers I know are /both/ afraid for their channels right now. Vtubers do not exist in a bubble! Vtubers are friends, community members, collab partners, and so much more. Attacking them with disproportionately heavy-handed moderation doesn't just hurt the vtubing community. It negatively impacts the entire streaming ecosystem, and it makes content creators lose faith in the idea that Twitch will be a platform they can build a career on. The guidelines need to be revised to be straightforward, and their application needs to be even across all content creators. If you want everyone to be covered from head to toe, so be it: but at least make that clear so that your content creators -- the people who are producing the media which gives Twitch its value as a company -- do not live in fear that they will overstep an invisible boundary and lose everything they've built.
EDIT:// I want to add that I have no judgment for people who stream IRL and do performance art in little to no clothing. The problem isn't, at all, the content creators showing their bodies in my opinion: the problem is with moderation disproportionately targeting animated representations of bodies over their IRL counterparts. I already personally feel that Twitch's modesty-based moderation policies are frustratingly vague and subjective (and disproportionately affect content creators who skew feminine in their presentation,) and frankly, the last thing I hope will happen as a result of this is even more people being targeted by heavy-handed moderation efforts. Guidelines need to be overhauled to be clear, direct, and enforced unilaterally for EVERY content creator.

I think more than anything, especially in the interest of transparency, Twitch needs to provide specifics when issuing bans. Including timestamps as well as an at least somewhat detailed description of the violating content. No one can improve their adherence to the rules if they don't have an idea of what they did wrong, and vague references to policy guidelines doesn't tell us anything. If you cannot even manage a short description of the problem, you should not be handing out bans so lightly.

the fact that Vtubers are getting hammered and nothing has been done about it baffles me, and its been going on for some time that Vtubers get targeted but its getting worse. do you know how it feels to consistently walk on egg shells knowing that you can get thanose snaped into oblivion without a resound? its real unfortunate for those that work real hard for their career just to have it shattered and its not going to help upcoming vtubers ither...

I just wish twitch would just enforce the guidelines the same way on vtubers as they do irltubers, and actually tell us why we get banned or suspended.
There are heckin cam girls on twitch and then vtubers get banned for outfits they've worn for years (that, by the way, can cost hundreds or thousands of dollars.)
And now I'm going to rant about the twitch mature system because somehow it's worse and I need to get it out.
If you mark your stream mature, the following happens:
No one can see your stream is marked mature unless they raid you (or you use content labels)
It is still hard to see content labels if you're not on pc
And acounts listed as minors can watch mature streams without any warning, and even mark their own streams as mature.I have been keeping that in for so heckin long because barely anyone believes me but if you check, it's very much true.

I'm a male Vtuber and are just starting out and then all this is happening as I'm getting closer to my debut makes me very much disheartened to maybe even continue. Many of us don't need this stress and fear of unfairness when other none Vtubers can do more things with out getting the same unfair treatment. Since it is unfair, things need to change for the better for both old and new Vtubers.

I'm definitely not a big Vtuber by any means, but the hypocrisy shown by Twitch when it comes to how Vtubers are treated compared to how normal streamers are treated is insane. Vtubers are getting targeted on Twitch with unfair, and often times wrongful, bans and suspensions. Meanwhile there are normal streamers literally being naked on camera and getting a slap on the wrist AT MOST. Not to mention that the latter are often on the front page on a site that has minors as viewers. Twitch has lived long enough to become a villain to its own creators, and it needs to stop NOW!

None of this has happened to me, likely because I’m obscure as ****. But I say for all my fellow small vtubers, STOP PUTTING VTUBERS BELOW OTHER STREAMERS! We work just as hard for our spots, we earn our keep just as well. Yet we get punished for showing a little bit more hip skin? IT IS UNFAIR! Twitch has done nothing against streamers who are totally nude. Yet Vtubers have to follow all these ridiculous rules, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

As a small VTuber myself, nothing gives me as much discouragement from streaming quite like how Twitch Staff moderate their site. All of us Virtual streamers feel like we are put under a microscope and have the book thrown at us at the slightest of wrong doing, some of us are just straight up banned with false accusations from Twitch Staff themselves. Our channels getting permanently banned a vast majority of the time as a result. Mean while regular streamers are free to use slurs, sexually harass, send death threats, send hate mobs, and just straight up make **** live on Twitch. The worst they'll ever get is a slap on the wrist with anywhere between a 12 hour and 1 week ban.
How can Twitch Staff claim to treat everyone fairly when we see you all do this to us every single day all day long? We can see past your lies and say with our full chests that Twitch Staff actively discriminates against VTubers as a whole and are trying to push us off the platform. You're all just too cowardly to admit it yourselves.

I'm a small starting Vtuber and I'm fearing for my life that if I grow a lil bit I would be banned for something is not in my type of content (and that is happening with that "sexual content" for showing normal *****) bruh do better. Now getting targeted with that payment situation is getting vibes that we are getting discriminated so bad by some groups that doesn't stand vtubers and mass reporting with every single excuse they can find. This is getting really insane and we need transparency of where is the **** for why are we banned. Like a screenshot or video of the sexual content or what purchases were botted or what credit card was miss used.
Let's be real, Twitch, your mass reports of vtubers are mostly fake and you're discriminating our community that tries their best to follow the lines and TOS of your platform... And we mostly have models that has the correct amount of clothes, more than those female streamers that has only skin colored micro bikinis... Like... Bro...

The amount of discrimination against vtubers here recently has been EXHAUSTING to watch! We make Twitch SO much money, and yet are constantly treated as less than! Y'all hand out permanent bans left and right for “underboob” and yet there are LITERAL NAKED PEOPLE on Twitch getting away with SO MUCH WORSE and get a slap on the wrist? You guys are fake as ****, letting those people get away SO MUCH worse than “underboob”. It’s DISGRACEFUL and pathetic. Do better! We DESERVE better!

It's hard to have any confidence in twitch, when their idea of transparent appears to be slandering in discrimination. The blatant targeting of Vtubers is immature, makes me wonder if the moderation team was evaluated at all before they were hired.
Streamers shouldn't be used as playthings for the moderators' personal vendettas.

It's scary to think of how quick someone's hard work can get taken down. Especially the unfairness regarding Vtubers showing a slight excess of skin, whilst other real life streamers have been practically naked with only some form of item covering their privates, yet still able to continue streaming. This double standard is unfair and troublesome. I have been seeing large amounts of Vtubers get suspended lately, and it is stressful to think that one day I could get wrongfully suspended too. I usually keep to myself but this issue is dire, and I'd like Twitch to give more insight on this. Everyone is trying their best to grow their platform and Vtubers have been fairly popular in the streaming atmosphere now. From a business and fair perspective I think it'd be in the better interest to adhere equal grounds for both Vtubers and RL streamers. Otherwise Vtubers won't feel as comfortable streaming on Twitch anymore, i'm sure many don't already. If one party isn't allowed to do something, it should be that way for everyone. I myself have come to really enjoy Twitch, but when I see things like this happening, it's disappointing.

I'm genuinely scared that there's a possibility that all my hard work can just be gone one day and there won't be anything I can do about it. Reports of what's been happening has been ongoing, and there's not a single statement made to even say Twitch is aware of the situation and looking into it. Communication is part of transparency. We need more of both.
