Agreed! I saw the message today telling me I need to gift sub to keep my badge?! For a BADGE! To show I've supported a channel and they're trying to hold it *******.

I'm never giving gift subs or bits ever again and I've been doing it for 7yrs.

I feel bad for friends I know who have gifted like crazy like 5000 subs+ but due to life haven't been around. All of that money and twitch just takes their badge away?! Crazy... the people who run this platform man...

It is very predatory behaviour by Twitch to demand at least one gifted sub a month in order to keep your previously earned badge. For me it is pretty simple: as long as this rule remains I will not gift a single sub anymore. Mind, I have gifted about 1k subs each year the last 3 years, not a lot for Twitch but very decent money for the streamers who will now receive direct donations.

I'll admit I'm more affected by this rule as a viewer than a streamer, but forcing us to give at least 1 sub a month (not cheap!) just to keep a badge we already earned is ridiculous. Also, the prompt you get in chat every single time asking you to give a sub to get your badge is extremely annoying. Truthfully, I have gifted a lot less subs since this went into effect. Why on earth would I pay money to get a badge for just one month? It doesn't make any sense. I'd be shocked if none of the employees at twitch have raised concerns about how predatory and unfair this is. Management should listen to them!

you shouldn't have to repeatedly pay for achievements you've unlocked previously. this is unfair.

financial circumstances change for everyone. my top gifters of all time are currently unable to afford gifting a single sub. i'm worried this will drive historically valuable users off the platform and discourage long-term community members from hanging out in chat because they're being bombarded with messages reminding them about their current financial status.

it's giving "forget what you've done for me, what have you done for me LATELY?" which is so toxic. please walk this back.

The SPAM from twitch EVERY day about how my badge is inactive is really grubby. It shows their true intent.

They added... a prompt/notification that your gift badge is inactive, and you need to gift a sub to reactivate your badge. This is insanely insulting. This makes me want to gift subs even less (read: not at all).

I'm sorry gifting thousands of dollars doesn't please you, but my literal singular cent is plenty for a badge to be permanent.

It's depressing as **** that this idea was first posted over 5 years ago and we are still here commenting on it. Twitch, come on. How many frustrated comments will it take to do the right thing? If someone has gifted a hundred subs in my channel, and then they fall on hard times and can't gift anymore, they shouldn't lose the recognition for the subs they DID gift. Those gifts were given and received, and they shouldn't have to keep "earning" the same badge by gifting each month. Stop being selfish, stop being greedy, and stop burning through what goodwill you have left. Fix this.

Agreed with all the sentiment here, it's insulting and ridiculous to take away gift sub badges. Even if those subs expire, did I now gift zero in that channel? No. The badges are a testament to your history and support of the channel.

It is very hurtful and disrespectful to those who have spent lots of money on gift Subs, which is better than gifting bits only to not use that badge forever.

I hope they change it back to how it was because it's a horrible change and completely unnecessary.

I agree that once you have "earned" those badges by gifting, you should have them forever and not have to gift every month to keep them, that's just ridiculous IMO

It’s extremely rude to take away the badges , especially fro, those who have spent money to support those streamers! There are other positive ways to do this but taking peoples money is just RUDE!

I flat out will not gift any more subs on Twitch because of this. It's just a ******, selfish, greedy change. It literally costs Twitch nothing to show badges. It probably actually costs MORE money to run a program that takes people's badges away over time.

ESPECIALLY when the higher tiers are literal hundreds to THOUSANDS of dollars. People have badges for gifting five hundred subs to one channel, that's over two grand. Forcing people to continue giving money is unreasonable.

This is the kind of ****** money-grubbing decision that makes people hate corporations. And I for one will put a hard stop on that money source to make this terrible decision an unprofitable one.

SO TELL ME TWITCH!!! Since I live on disability income, what would you suggest I do without to keep my badge that wa permanent before you decided to not make it permanent anymore? Food? My Medicine? Should I just become homeless? Been here 8 years and it's taken me that long to gift the 30 subs I've gifted. And now you' want to extort money from me to keep my hard earn badge? WELL ********!!!

it is not fair to the streamer or the viewer of any stream to lose their bit badge or sub badge because they cannot maintain their support due to financial hardship this is ignorant on the side of twitch over what making extra money. this is not for the streamer to make money for twitch we as streamers provide a service for people to be able to have something to do when they're bored out of their mind.

So Twitch is punishing those who find themselves incapable of gifting subs for a month by removing the badges that they worked (and spent money) to achieve?
This makes no sense as being FORCED to buy gift subs to keep the badge will result in most people refusing to gift subs to those less fortunate than themselves.

Badges should 100% be permanent. It is unfair to punish someone years later who maybe doesn't have the means to gift another sub, that they could lose all their badges for not purchasing one sub.

At the very least allow the streamer to turn this setting on/off at their discretion

What if people were coming up on financial hardship but they've gifted over 100+ subs in a channel? That shouldn't go away!

I literally won't give more subs because of this. I will donate directly to the streamers Paypal account. This is proposterous and nobody cares.
