A majority of ads on web and TV apps should now have normalized sound. We are still continuing the work on this and will update the status again when it is fully complete!

I think this actually works now to some extent. I went to a new stream, ad started on low volume, went to next stream and ad was a bit louder. might still be problematic, but at least not inside one stream. you could for example add volume because you can't hear the ad and next one comes out louds as heck after you jump to next stream.

there's currently one add rolling in finland that is deliberately making ear-breaking ding sounds with under a second of warning. not sure if normalization even works with that if there's just 2 loud ding sounds and the rest of the ad is pretty silent.
I'd fix this by giving an option to choose visual only ads for music streams. this way you could show full screen ads, but it wouldn't break continuity of the stream.tesnopesno supported this idea ·

is this the reason why follower only channel gives just error when I push follow? I've been here just over a year and follow mostly music streamers. how am I supposed to get into gaming and other stuff now?

Just wanted to update this thread that we are doing an experiment right now with Stream Display Ads! These are less disruptive ads that allow viewers to see and hear Creators while being displayed. Creators will receive ad revenue for each SDA shown. You can find out more information here: https://twitter.com/TwitchSupport/status/1603148201489580032

for me as a music streamer, I'd be ok with ads that take my video part away (that small window to my stream is nice), but stopping the sound part is a problem. for me you could have ads constantly on my stream as a banner for example, if it was a good option for advertizer. Just need to have some options to choose which suits your stream the best.

ads would be way less problematic, if they wouldn't use sound as much. in my stream you could throw full screen ads very often without any problems as long as there's small window of video stream and it doesn't affect my sound. there could be some effect sounds maybe in ads, as long as it's adjusted to stream volume (don't want to break ears).

yeah, it's super annoying also when you open a new stream window, default is 1080p60 which instantly breaks all my streams. also would be ecological to offer smaller resolution for everyone since usually it's just a waste of energy to send high res image of bad camera.

I was just thinking that it would be nice to get a gift sub updated to tier 2 with tier 1 price discounted of the price. Or does the price already include the tier 1 sub?
