Mask Requirement for TwitchCon
After the surge of COVID cases after TwitchCon EU it was incredibly surprising to see the lack of mask policy for the event and makes many of us incredibly concerned about TwitchCon NA. Many other cons that have gone without a mask policy have only exacerbated the COVID cases where cons like PAX East, West etc have had much lower cases by having a strict mask policy.
We hear you and take these concerns seriously. In response to all of your feedback, we are updating our TwitchCon policies to require masks, as well as either proof of vaccination or a negative covid test. We will continue to review our health and safety guidelines along with local authorities in order to keep our community safe IRL at TwitchCon San Diego. Thank you for making your voice heard. More info is available here.

Masks should be required and should’ve been required from the start

TwitchCon is being held at the San Diego Convention Center where San Diego Comic-Con was held a few weeks ago. SDCC required proof of vaccination and masks during the entire event. It's not that hard to just go with that same protocol.

Proof of vaccines should be required as such a large event, it could potentially save peoples lives!

If SDCC can handle and enforce vaccine requirement checks AND mandatory mask mandates with FAR more attendees in the same convention center. TwitchCon can and should too.

The decision to "encourage" masks instead of requiring it from attendees is incredibly callous and indicative of your need for numbers of attendees and revenue and not the safety of your community, Twitch partners or staff.
The onus is on YOU to create a safe environment at your event, not the people. But if you refuse to enforce as safe of an environment as possible, then all I can hope is the people choose to not attend for the health and safety of their self and others.

Not enforcing mask, negative test and vaccination protocols is asking for a superspreader event to occur. Just look at the NUMEROUS other conventions where precautions were taken lightly, resulting in a huge outbreak of COVID-19. Not to mention, monkeypox is rising and on the horizon, do you really want to take a risk and chance introducing that can of worms into the population? For the safety of everyone, these policies NEED to be put into place. You are losing money, numerous people are not attending now due to the backtracking on these policies. If people want to complain and cry about their freedoms, then it is also their right to not attend the convention, just as it is your right as a private corporation to ensure negative tests, vaccination and mask requirements.

No one should be allowed to go to this event without at least getting double or triple vaccinated and the mask wearing should definitely be a requirement given that there are thousands of people going to it! We need to play it safe while a pandemic is still happening!

I know you've got big hopes and dreams for TwitchCon, but I hope that "create a great superspreader event" isn't one of them. Please don't take the event of the year that I most look forward to and turn it into an irresponsible decision for everyone involved, especially when the repercussions of that risk can be so dire.

Strict mask policy should be implemented to save peoples lives and make the event a more accessible experience overall! Many other cons have implemented mask mandates, twitchcon should do the same. So many fans and creators (many immunocompromised) would benefit greatly from mask mandates, vaccine and negative covid test proof, and easily accessible hand sanitisers.

It was already ridiculous to not require masks and vaccination proof for Amsterdam but to not require it in California, where there are much higher cases, is pure negligence.

Ignoring the calls from your community for vaccine and mask requirements is a bad idea btw- prioritizing public health over money should be a no brainer

Masks and vaccines should be mandated! So many people got covid after VidCon and TwitchCon EU, it not make sense to not mandate these things for the safety of the people.

They should require masks, proof of vaccine, negative covid tests and have hand sanitizers more readily available while considering that their event can cause a surge of cases because of the lack of care for the creators, workers/volunteers and attendees. After vidcon, there was a mass amount of cases because of their carelessness and Amsterdam wasn’t any better. If they want to continue making events, they should put the pandemic and people’s health before anything.

Twitch, y'all realize that a lot of your creators are immunocompromised, right? It'd be great if you looked out for them by requiring vaccines and masks. Just because you're tired of the pandemic doesn't mean it's not still here and a very real threat to a lot of people.

If you won’t have a mask and vaccine requirement, then it’s a no go from me. I will never go to an event which doesn’t care at all about the safety of its partners (content creators) and consumers (viewers and attendees).

Both masks and vaccines should be mandated. We saw how many people got covid after vidcon and Amsterdam. People with weaker immune systems such as myself could never attend any event that didn’t have these two things mandated, I’d be hospitalized. Peoples health is important, more important than the opinions of those claiming masks are uncomfortable.

At a bare minimum mask requirements and disposable masks/sanitizer stations available to attendants. Once someone's there and paid to get in, they'll likely put on a mask if given one.

We know that this is about money, bottom line. But if you kill us because of your disregard for our safety you can't take our money anymore.. so maybe require masks and proof of negative tests? So you can continue taking our $$ for years to come

Twitch listen. It is gonna be a full house event . Tickets are gonna be sold out anyways. With the exploding popularity of the platform in recent years. Why don’t you do the right thing then?? If it is dollars, you will have them even with strict requirements. Masks and proof. DO THE RIGHT THING. You will be the reason of many deaths in San Diego. How can you live with that???
