Mask Requirement for TwitchCon
After the surge of COVID cases after TwitchCon EU it was incredibly surprising to see the lack of mask policy for the event and makes many of us incredibly concerned about TwitchCon NA. Many other cons that have gone without a mask policy have only exacerbated the COVID cases where cons like PAX East, West etc have had much lower cases by having a strict mask policy.
We hear you and take these concerns seriously. In response to all of your feedback, we are updating our TwitchCon policies to require masks, as well as either proof of vaccination or a negative covid test. We will continue to review our health and safety guidelines along with local authorities in order to keep our community safe IRL at TwitchCon San Diego. Thank you for making your voice heard. More info is available here.

Other events have been able to keep attendees and staff safe and comfortable by requiring face masks within the event and providing proof of vaccination. Twitch can do the exact same thing with a little effort.

Seeing how many people caught covid after Twitchcon Amsterdam, it seems imperative that Twitchcon Sandiego, which will be in a city with startling high covid rates, should have stricter rules like requiring testing negative on a covid test a few days in advance to gain access to the event, requiring people be caught up on the booster, and mandatory/ stricter mask rules. For the well-being of the guests and event-goers, this seems like needed rules or the event will just continue to spread covid and risk the health of everyone involved. At the very least, masks should be required.

Here's a suggestion: vaccine proof, masks, and proof of negative tests within 48 hours of arrival. It's the most stringent approach, but it would actually protect people on the floor, at least. PAX East still had some rough consequences from COVID-19 policies failing. I was able to enter with proof of vaccination from several months prior, but there was no verification of whether or not I had contracted COVID-19, despite my vaccinations. I ended up safe, but others were not so lucky...

unconscionable, horrific, and inhumane for a corporation that runs a convention with about a 28,000 attendee turnout to allow it to become a super-spreader event. twitch is literally condemning immunocompromised people and innocents in the surrounding area to exposure to disease and in some cases condemning them to death. not sure how people can support that kind of behavior!

There needs to be a mask requirement and vaccination confirmation requirement!

If SDCC can do it, TwitchCon can too.

Mandatory masks AND vaccine confirmation to prior entry seem pretty **** important

This is the very bare minimum request, which twitch should have already required.

Masks and vaccinations are the BARE minimum. It does not matter if a state believes otherwise. Do better and protect those you say you care about.

should be made to be vaccinated too

Mask AND vaccine requirements, please. It seems like so many people got covid from TC in Amsterdam. With Monkeypox in the equation, those requirements are the only way I'll attend (which I hope to, if course corrections are made).

It's mind boggling for twitch to not follow the same guidelines as SDCC. Infection rate looks to be relatively low with most people getting infected after going to after-parties and other off-site activities where the same policies were not in effect.

Ignoring the calls from your community for vaccine and mask requirements is a bad idea btw- prioritizing public health over money should be a no brainer

This is an absurdly negligent decision. Even suggesting not having a mask requirement during yet another COVID spike is a deliberately ignorant decision. I'm appalled that Twitch would have such a blatant disregard for its attendees. Mask mandates, distancing enforcement, and vaccine requirements are the absolute bare minimum to be able to even hold an event right now.

A lack of even basic requirements to protect staff and attendees from an ongoing pandemic is quite possibly the dumbest thing twitch has ever done in the history of the company.

face coverings + a vaccine/testing requirement would make twitchcon na so much safer for both creators and attendees

Consider requiring masks and requiring vaccinations for crowded panels, I know many people, including creators, got COVID from lax regulation. Crowded conventions like these are basically hotbeds for spreading illness, so this kind of stuff needs to be prioritized, even if it's a bit of a downer. Public health should be priority.

How can you host an event and not require proof of vaccination and masking when Covid numbers have risen again? Very careless and irresponsible

Sdcc required masks and vaccination/testing and it took place not even 2 weeks ago. Don’t throw out the as per local regulation nonsense, just do the safe right thing for the attendees…
