Mask Requirement for TwitchCon
After the surge of COVID cases after TwitchCon EU it was incredibly surprising to see the lack of mask policy for the event and makes many of us incredibly concerned about TwitchCon NA. Many other cons that have gone without a mask policy have only exacerbated the COVID cases where cons like PAX East, West etc have had much lower cases by having a strict mask policy.
We hear you and take these concerns seriously. In response to all of your feedback, we are updating our TwitchCon policies to require masks, as well as either proof of vaccination or a negative covid test. We will continue to review our health and safety guidelines along with local authorities in order to keep our community safe IRL at TwitchCon San Diego. Thank you for making your voice heard. More info is available here.

So far there is about 20 people I know of who have done a 180 and are now not going. Great way to kill the convention guys.
Heck, even if you don't require masks, require proof of vaccination. At the very least.

The "use your best judgement" every-man-for-himself attitude around masking/testing is bad, as it means immunocompromised & other high-risk people can't safely attend. And that is A LOT of Twitch creators!
Please require masks and proof of vaccine.

Having a mask mandate increases everyone’s safety, especially immunocompromised guests, with very little downsides. I have been on the fence about investing in twitchcon San Diego this year, but Twitch’s blatant indifference to public health here will probably be the nail in the coffin for me

I agree with TwitchCon's new policy. COVID is no longer the threat it used to be. It's evident based on low hospitalizations, low deaths, and how most Americans are living right now. I hear that even in Europe, life has returned to normal. The majority of cases are mild now. We're not in 2020-early 2021 anymore. It's time for all conventions to operate as a pre-COVID normal con. I hated when Anime Expo bend the knee to the mob of hypochondriacs after they relaxed their restrictions. If you wanna wear a mask yourself, go ahead. If you don't feel comfortable, stay home. Conventions were never intended to run with these restrictions. Sporting events and concerts are completely back to normal. Why can't big cons like TwitchCon and AX do the same?

Why would you get rid of the mandate. You're not gonna make money in the long run if people who dont like it dont go and all the people that do get sick.

Please require masks. I went to pax east and they were very strict on masking and it really made a huge difference.

Basic health and safety precautions should be taken, especially at such a large event with your creators. Other conventions of the same size and larger have been able to enforce the BARE minimum in terms of health and safety. Not having anything in place is irresponsible and dangerous.

I can say that it’s kind of sad when furcons have better mandates for mask and vaccine requirements than a company. So please reconsider your options keeping people safer should be mandatory. All you would have to do is either have them bring the CDC card or QR code. EZ PZ and twitch could make Twitch con branded masks to handout for those without em. Of course this only lessens the risk of getting Covid but it’s still something.

At minimum, vaccines should be mandated. Other large conventions have taken this measure as well as many of them enforcing masks. Refusing to acknowledge your responsibility of protecting your patrons by taking these measures is incredibly disappointing. Please reconsider.

Please require a mask mandate or at least proof of a negative covid 19 test/proof of vaccine. The fact that there are no safety precautions while we are still actively in a pandemic is so irresponsible and terrible. I was looking forward to going but now I personally don't feel safe going (and a bunch of other people don't either).

Have it to where people are expected to show proof of vaccination, and try to enforce masks, or do not have con. It is so simple, you are so irresponsible for this otherwise.

Vaccination should be a bare minimum requirement at this point. This could save so many lives, including the lives of popular creators viewers go to twitchcon to meet.

Bruh, are you trying to hurt your creators, workers and attendees with unnecessarily exposing them to covid/monkeypox? Just enforce proper health and safety policies.

Not having any safety requirements in place is simply irresponsible at this point in the pandemic. San Diego Comic Con recently had great success with their safety measures, please reconsider and implement something.

Covid is still a big deal, and it is genuinely dangerous for a convention that big to have no regulations on anything. This will only make everything worse

Irresponsible to not mandate masks and/or vaccines after all the positive cases at TwitchCon Amsterdam. Do better.

sixthfool commented
Require vaccines unless something like a disability stopped someone from getting it.
-
pixiemuledonkey commented
Refusing to require masks, much less proof of vaccination, at TwitchCon is effectively telling the disabled portion of your community that they aren't welcome. This needlessly puts vulnerable people in danger.
