Mask Requirement for TwitchCon
After the surge of COVID cases after TwitchCon EU it was incredibly surprising to see the lack of mask policy for the event and makes many of us incredibly concerned about TwitchCon NA. Many other cons that have gone without a mask policy have only exacerbated the COVID cases where cons like PAX East, West etc have had much lower cases by having a strict mask policy.
We hear you and take these concerns seriously. In response to all of your feedback, we are updating our TwitchCon policies to require masks, as well as either proof of vaccination or a negative covid test. We will continue to review our health and safety guidelines along with local authorities in order to keep our community safe IRL at TwitchCon San Diego. Thank you for making your voice heard. More info is available here.

I won't be attending if there is no mask mandate. I can't afford the time off if I catch rona. I'd already be using that time off to go to con. No way I could afford the time off after.

I'm hard-pressed to understand why TwitchCon did not decide to enforce masking after the surge of cases that happened after TwitchCon EU. The mask mandate at SDCC was SO useful and seems to have capped cases. This is held in the same location, with what I'm assuming will be a lot of the same event staff (if they rent security, like most cons do). This decision has cemented the fact that a lot of creators will not be going, thus losing their audience wanting to go. Less people, less money for TwitchCon! Wouldn't it be better to have a mask mandate and make more money, Twitch?

I got Covid at Twitchcon EU, I think I was naive to think I wouldn't.
If I catch Covid in the US I'll probably miss the con entirely and be stuck in the US because I can't travel. I can't afford that time off work and extra cost.
Comic Con mandated masks and that event went down great regardless, please Twitch - do the same

So many of Twitch’s content creators are immunocompromised and/or disabled. Some of us do this as a full time job because of the flexibility this type of work gives us in comparison to other jobs.
Twitch is isolating such a big portion of their content creators and telling them they are not worthy of feeling safe at their event. Please enforce masks and vaccinations. Make the con accessible to all.

as someone who is immunocompromised and has already had covid, vaccine and masks at all times need to be required. I am sick and tired of people treating the disabled community like we don't exist and this would be a step in the correct direction if they mandate these rules.

Require masking and vaccines. A large majority of people cannot afford to get sick, and many are disabled or immunocompromised. Anti-maskers/Anti vaxxers can simply stay home if they dont want to protect at risk groups.

It would be way safer to make the vaccine an obligation

I'm personally grateful that Twitch are letting people make their own decisions regarding their health. Please continue with your current policy. Anyone who wants to wear a mask is free to wear one, or simply not attend if they don't feel comfortable in a large public space.

Seriously considering not attending if Twitch fails to uphold proper precautions here. If I contract COVID at your event, I'll be unable to work my day job for half a month afterwards, unable to pay bills. It's not a risk most people are able to take. Please reconsider a mask and vax requirement.

TwitchCon will be my first FLYING travel trip in over three years, and with the pandemic still being a thing, it's inappropriate to not have a mask requirement after infections from PAX East and TwitchCon EU. San Diego also JUST had Comic-Con, one of the BIGGEST conventions in the world, and they even had a mask requirement. You are holding your convention in the SAME building where Comic-Con was held. If they can enforce a mask requirement, so can y'all. It's not overreacting, it's a necessary precaution, and a sign of respect. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE have a mask requirement.

TwitchCon should be an event for everyone to enjoy. Not just those who can afford to not wear a mask or aren't vulnerable to the virus.

Twitch should absolutely show it values staff, creators, and users by requiring stringent mask, vaccine, and negative tests along with additional sanitizing stations and additional house keeping staff. Anything less is irresponsible at best.

Please, require vaccinations and masks for this event. So many people already get sick at conventions, without requirements like this it’s only going to be worse.

As someone who works in environments like this in past year. Mask's or another face covering is best option. Along with stations providing hand sanitizer. Have a crew to wipe down contact surfaces too every hour or two will help majorly.
It has been proven that, unfortunately, the vaccine only dampers effects and likely hood of getting it. Please remember keeping your distance and proper hygiene goes far in time of pandemics.

You want some data analytics? Here is some analytics. Vote to have Twitchcon has precautions built into handling minimizing the spread of COVID-19.
It doesn't take much to require people to at least wear masks and have an area of the convention where people can opt-in to getting tested for COVID-19.
Being realistic also means being practical.

Fascinating how people are still calling for vaccine mandates in particular when they are clearly of no value when it comes to transmission. This vaccine until it is better on transmission is for your personal safety, not others.
People asking for it instead of a mask mandate basically know masks are unpopular and will be ignored

Hi! I have another proposal that I think would improve the general security of the event: vaccination requirements. Having at least two shots of the covid vaccine is enough to ensure, that even if someone brings covid to the party - it's less likely anyone suffers greater health problems because of it.
It may not prevent the disease being there in the first place, it's never a guarantee. However it'll spread slower, and not every person will be deemed to catch covid during the event.
It is a possible solution. It's your choice to take it -

In CA monkeypox was just declared a state of emergency. Not have masks required and not having hand sanitizer readily available is just begging to be a super spreader event. Dont forget covid is still a thing. Make it as safe as possible for people. Wear a mask, and use hand sanitizer.

Sister convention such as PAX, have enforced their guidelines with having masks and vaccine requirements. The safety of your community is far more important than the financial gain. I am implore you to reconsider.
