Mask Requirement for TwitchCon
After the surge of COVID cases after TwitchCon EU it was incredibly surprising to see the lack of mask policy for the event and makes many of us incredibly concerned about TwitchCon NA. Many other cons that have gone without a mask policy have only exacerbated the COVID cases where cons like PAX East, West etc have had much lower cases by having a strict mask policy.

If masks are "encouraged", if we're still in that state, it should be required.

its 2022. their is multiple versions of the covid vax and supply. their should be NO REASON to reduce covid restrictions. we are nearing the end of the pandemic. not having these restrictions only continues the **** pandemic.
your Staff is going to be at the con. if twitch "cares about communities." you wouldn't want to put increased risks to your employees while at the con. -

Local guidelines were made for the sake of the general public, not hundreds or thousands of people all going to a super crowded building and meeting some people who are coming in close contact with the dozens (if not hundreds) of people who they are gonna take pictures with on the street and hug and talk without social distancing at meet and greets and through out the convention.
If anything, masks should at least be enforced in lines to panels and meet and greets where people are in close contact for long periods of time, and possibly mandatory negative covid test and vaccinatiom for meet and greets.
Remember, the event is not accessible if disabled people cannot attend without risking hospitalization.

I agree with Twitch taking local guidelines. No masks or requirements to enter.

"It's just that masks are terribly comfortable -- I think everyone will be wearing them in the future," said Westley, presciently.

Wear a Mask !!! & u should be vaxxed. It’s sexxy ! I disagree that earlier this year they removed proof of vaxx requirement from almost everywhere that actually had it in place. But then I’m the “fascist one ?!? … ummm, I’m the immunocompromised ! You are the selfish & the ignorant. Try Science now available in BA.5 in L.A., coming to San Diego, everywhere, soon.

the pandemic is still very much ongoing, with new variants that are more transmissable than before. for the safety of EVERYONE attending, especially your staff, you should at the bare minimum require masking inside the con.

A lack of masking requirements, vaccination checks, or negative test requirements names me think less of Twitch as a brand. At least pretend to care about your customers.

The back and forth I'm seeing in the comments is "But I don't want to wear a mask, don't make me!" on the side of being anti-mask, and "I am immuno-compromised and cannot be stuck in a place that has no mask or vaccination regulations in place" on the side of people being pro-mask. I just find that interesting.

Negative COVID test within the last 24hrs or be vaccinated as well. Keep the community safe.

L takes. I can't believe how many people are gaslighting and saying "I won't go" but every other second that you're on the way to TwitchCon or around the venue there's no mask requirements in place. If you have to take any plane ride you're going to be in there with a bunch of people with no masks on. Sure you might bully Twitch into a mask mandate with articles and tweets and forum posts but at the end of the day it's just cope.

It's so obvious and CDC recommends areas with high spread (San Diego) should have indoor masking everywhere. So since you say you're following CDC, do it.

This further prevents equal participation of marginalized streamers and fans, particularly disabled and high-risk individuals, many of whom have found community and work on and through Twitch. Please protect our communities, the service workers in the surrounding area, and ensure that there is as much equity for disabled and high-risk participants as possible.

If you are reading this and if you know even ONE viewer or know even ONE of your fellow streamers, moderators, VIP that are planning to go to TwitchCon. Take a moment and reach out and ask them to vote.
I get that wearing masks will not be the perfect solution. It's about pragmatic mitigation to minimize the spread. Especially for a crowded event like a convention.

I am not allowed to get the vaccine at all but I would be able to provide a COVID-19 test and wear a mask. If I could I would get the vaccine but I can’t. I really am looking forward to possibly going to the convention but I believe it is important to keep not only streamers safe but also other people that aren’t content creators and it shouldn’t even be a question of masking requirements. For people who really want to attend the event but aren’t able to be vaccinated should at least provide negative COVID-19 tests and wear a mask. I think that is at least reasonable.

Star Wars Celebration and SDCC both required masks and proof of vaccination. Pretty irresponsible to not require either. At the very least, require vaccinations. Do you really want to be responsible for a break out? If this is about money just because a portion of Twitch users and creators are unvaccinated and anti-mask, that’s ridiculous to put that over people’s health especially with long Covid symptoms. Do better Twitch.
