This has also been a problem ever since I first started streaming over a year ago. C'mon please fix it you guys. it shouldn't be that hard because it can handle other punctuation. Add quotes to the list of handled characters.

@Mr_Rogerstv, I would agree with you except for two key problems:
    1. the **** Viewer counter does not count properly. I have had a bunch of streams that had way more viewers than were counted. I know because they were people I knew who were helping me test this.
    2. the dependency on viewer average encourages small streamers to actually stream less. I barely reached affiliate and only because I trimmed down all my streaming to just one day a week because that was the only day I was making more than 3 viewers (I guess people liked my D&D game) but I was streaming a lot to try and build up a following and to see what people liked. I was trying a bunch of different games and times but I think I just lucked out with the timing as my ave viewers have dropped back down below 3 even for my D&D game. I had to wait for almost a month of not streaming anything but that for the "drag" streams (1-2 viewers) to factor out of the monthly calculations but if I hadn't done that I would still be struggling to get there. I moved my other shows over to YouTube Gaming because they don't care about average viewers only total hours watched because a lot of people who watch me do so on vods. Not sure if it is a good business practice if it actively drives people to your competitors.

Here's the thing. To all the people saying that it should stay as average viewers, I would be somewhat fine with that if the viewer count was even close to accurate but it's not. If they fixed that, a lot more channels would make affiliate and deserve it. This is what the OP was talking about.

On the other hand, even with that part fixed, there is also a straight math problem with using an average. To actually reach this goal if things were tracking correctly, the math points to you being better off streaming less and only during peak hours at least until you reach affiliate (unless you want to get to partner). I stream all my games because I want to stream gaming content but most of the time, I stream to 1 or 2 viewers because I play late at night on the west coast. Late night streamers on the east coast have an advantage because part of their late night time is still prime time for many parts (if in NA). This seems unfair and counter productive. Why not add in or factor in all the views your videos get overall when you are not streaming. A lot of my audience seems to watch my videos at different hours than when I actually stream. I have a day job and kids so my streaming times are limited but I am up late so I still have no problem making a good amount of gaming content that quite a few people are watching (I've already made it to 500 hours and last month I had 400 Views mostly from NA).

One other point is that most of the channel building systems are gated behind the Affiliate wall. Why can't non-affiliate channels use loyalty points and have a few icons to entice viewers to follow them and help them get to affiliate?

Some of the features such as channel/loyalty points and other viewer interactions that aren't specifically monetization based (or could have a beginner/unmonetized version) could really help new streamers build/retain the audience they need to make Affiliate. It also gives a new streamer a chance to play around with what works for them before they get to affiliate so they can hit the ground running, so to speak.

I feel like the 3+ average viewers actually encourages new streamers to stream less and they have very little control or help with getting more viewers unlike followers with can steadily grow into viewship. If you stream often like I do even though I don't have a lot of viewers, I am trying to practice and get better at talking during my stream, I am trying to pretend to have viewers even when there are none. However, the more I stream without any viewers the harder it is to get to an average of 3+ viewers. Maybe it should be to get a single stream with 3+ viewers (or maybe just up the number a bit since that would probably be pretty easy) or and average within the last few days or a week. Don't punish beginner streamers for streaming more when they don't have any viewers, give them time to practice.
