This experiment is now closed as the new mobile redesign is rolling out to all users. Thank you for all your feedback during the experiment. We released an update to respect your autoplay settings in the feed, muted the feed on open by default (you can adjust this in your settings), and added mute functionality directly to the feed to give you more control over your viewing experience. We also enabled PIP over feed and have been continuing to improve app performance since launch. Still using Android version 19.6 here because it's the last version before this travesty. For those interested, it can be downloaded from any apk mirroring site and loaded onto your phone so you don't have to deal with this poor corporate decision. I don't suggest apkpure as a download site as they want you to download other things as well these days in order to install apks that they provide. I'm not a shill for any apk mirroring sites, just a dude trying to help.
Anyway, back to the feedback directed at Twitch:
Is Twitch reading this at all? There are 55 pages of people saying "this is awful" but we're still trying to push this? How many people in this thread have canceled their streamer subscriptions and their Turbo? How much revenue do you estimate you've lost because you keep pushing ahead with this universally hated design?
Or maybe that's why it's being pushed? Trying to kill off the mobile userbase with an insanely bad UI/UX update? If so, I must say: fantastic job. You've knocked it out of the park. People will absolutely be seeking their content elsewhere or viewing Twitch with a 3rd party mobile app, or maybe even just connecting to the website through their browser on desktop mode. All of these are preferable alternatives to the current state of the Twitch mobile app. So if this is truly the goal, to kill the mobile userbase so you don't have to keep mobile app designers on staff, you're doing tremendously well. Kudos for finding the fastest way to murder your mobile userbase.

I rolled my app back to version 19.6 faster than I have ever rolled back an app update in the 12+ years I've had some version of an Android phone. Twitch is neither TikTok nor YT Shorts and doesn't need to be copying their main interface in a vain attempt to look hip and attractive to the kids, or whatever justification was used to get this past QA. Opening the app into a random stream that I follow was jarring and obnoxious and has typically been an unpopular decision in past updates when trying similar things, making it extra confusing when it keeps getting tried. The Stories icon that nobody uses looks more like a Following List icon than the actual icon that gets you to your following list, which is now algorithm-sorted. This method is certainly a choice, and one that needs to have sorting options because algorithm-sort feels gross. The following list lacking a stream preview also feels bad, I'd like to see a snapshot of what any given streamer is doing before I enter.
Overall the worst rework I've seen for this app. If this design sticks through this test into the standard design, I will absolutely be using any other third-party app that doesn't follow this design scheme to watch Twitch in the future.

This goes hand-in-hand with the Mobile App Redesign thread, frankly.
Please let your userbase know when you've seen the light and have reverted back to the app design last seen in Android version 19.6. This has been possibly the least popular decision Twitch has made in a while, and that's quite a list of things that users didn't like. 55 pages of "please, this is awful." just being ignored so we can forge ahead with a mass exodus to either a 3rd party Twitch app or to simply watch content elsewhere.
The Discovery feed is modeled after TikTok which encourages terrible live streams in an awful portrait format. Trash it along with the redisign.

I hate it
I uninstalled
I went to a 3rd party app
I canceled my subs, including Twitch Prime
I really think the update is going incredibly well! We should double-down on this redesign so we can alienate even more of our userbase because Ted in UI Design is actually really confident that people really actually do want this layout, but it will take time for them to come around to it! Trust in Ted, the UI Update is both necessary AND popular, we'll just continue to ignore the 67 pages of Uservoice feedback that seems to indicate otherwise.
Remember, corporate Twitch team:
When the users are begging for change, we pick the worst option and shove it down our users throats while they continue to tell us they hate it, because here at Twitch, if they hate the update, it means we're doing the right thing.
Stay the course, and within the next year we can completely decimate our mobile viewerbase by further improving our app!

Seriously though, everyone hates this update. Read the feedback, pull the heads from the butts, take a couple of days so you can get clean air to your brains, and maybe actually read the feedback both here and in places like the Google Play Store, where majority of the recent reviews are 1-2 stars and echo all the complaints here. Nobody wants this update. It's hot trash, and it's only becoming more and more rancid with each update. 19.6.10 is the last bastion before this poor decision. Fix it before everyone gives traffic to a third party app or before someone else figures out how to restream Twitch without ads.
Twitch's ability to double down on poor choices is astounding.
