I would completely abandon H.264 encoding altogether if it weren't for Twitch requiring it.
Please allow this. As an American streamer on Linux, I really don't want to use x264. With Fedora, the default setup is OpenH264--for legal reasons--and a modified version of libfdk, also for legal reasons. That works, and I get a nice low bitrate with good quality, but I'm realizing Fedora may not serve me well in the future and few distributions want to set up things properly with Cisco's OpenH264. But why are we insisting on using this proprietary format? My computer is most definitely capable of recording in AV1 on the spot. OBS allows AV1 encoding, even by software, as long as I'm not streaming Twitch.
H.264 is one of the hidden-to-the-public expressions of extreme corporate greed, reminding me of how it was cheaper for Sun Microsystems to buy out the company who made StarOffice (which now is LibreOffice) than it was to pay for Microsoft Office licenses for all the employees. Please support other forms of video distribution. AV1 for video and OGG Opus for audio would be great. Even supporting older codecs that have no patent blocks would be great, like OGG Theora.
And that doesn't mean you have to give up H.264 encoding support. I just want more choices.
If the transcoding makes my video delay or get a few lossy artifacts to the viewers, THAT IS OKAY. I just really want other encoding formats as an option.

It's not going to be that difficult to get an image by a real artist. Don't try to validate AI being a legitimate way for art. It is not.

Partners feel betrayed that they can't disable it. $100 minimum isn't good enough for many of them. Allowing people to just flat out disable it is important. The 100/0 split isn't as important to me, but 1) and 2) is very important to me.

It is considered a dark pattern in user design to make what is generally unwanted by the userbase as the default option.
