I don't think they should change it as follower count is pointless really. I have over one hundred followers but only 10 or less show up to a stream if I am lucky, it is usually around 2 to 3 viewers i can count on showing up do to scheduling conflicts and stuff. Also it is usually active viewers that become subscribers in the future.

I agree with this as it would help affiliates grow which could mean more money and fun for everyone including twitch.
The main argument I see here is about how harder it is for someone who streams for a long time versus those who stream just a few hours. One tip you can do to alleviate this problem is to have multiple streams in one day instead of one long stream. When I made affiliate I was streaming live at the time. My current streamed had crashed due to a connection issue and 30 min after I got the stream back up I got notified of my acceptance. Also if you notice a time period where you constantly don't have viewers may don't stream at those times till after you make affiliate. These are just ideas. Of course the best thing to do it network with other streamers and/or get your friends to join your streams.
