I used to be able to just re-show the badge in the past, but it seems with the most recent update it is completely gone.
It seems a bit weird, since the Bit badges don't go away at all (and also, you can choose to show a lower one even if you have the higher).
It would be nice if they'd stick around, because even when we don't have any active gift subs, showing our support to the channel using those badges seems like the thing to do regardless (especially for higher badges)

I wonder if merging chats is a good solution for most of them. For some it might work, but potentially not for everyone.
I'd personally like to see an option to just add a secondary chat; because I mostly watch squads of two or at most three; and participating in both chats at the same time is a bit tiresome.
Other platforms like multistre.am have layouts with multiple chats, but compared to the built-in squad streams they lack a lot of features beyond simple watching and chatting. -

I just tried to do this without reading the fine print, and only got authorization errors back. We could really need this extended to moderators of the channel, so they can run tools and integrations that create polls/predictions on behalf of the streamer. The streamer has enough to do already, let the mods help out (over the API, without having to type commands by hand that is error prone)!
