    Hey!

This is a good suggestion thank you! This has been discussed a couple of times in the past. We can’t promise any ETA on such a feature but it would be interesting to investigate.

Our main concerns so far would be what can be included is random: should it have filters, should it be games on all platforms or only selected ones, all age ratings etc..

If you have more ideas or specifics that always helps, we’ll leave this ticket open meanwhile!
    Thank you!

Updated idea: Maybe just having the button on the Advanced Search page. all you would need to do is just pick a random game from the filters already added there. just using the advance search to narrow down a group then using the button to pick from that group. and also if nothing is filtered then it would pick from all games.

Yeah I think it would be pretty simple to implement, even with filters. I'm just going to assume you are using SQL databases so simple where clauses would work pretty easy to use filters if needed.

Obviously oversimplifying but I think in terms of additions this wouldn't be up there on the difficulty scale. I've honestly been looking for a good random game gen and I cant think of anything better than a 50k+ library of games.

Hey! we had a chat about this internally and landed on the fact it could become problematic, so we wanted to double check your suggestion in more details.
How would we define the order within a series? As this could be seen either as chronologically by release, or by story.

For example, MGS3 being the first one in the story, yet the 3rd one by release date. This could prove very divisive either way.

Another issue that could be problematic are differences in the order by region. Final Fantasy is an infamous case, where FFVI was released as FFIII in North America for example.

Was this the sort of approach you had in mind with such a feature? Let us know :)

Personally, release date is what i look at when thinking of play order. When I play a game that has a prequel it makes the prequel better if i play it second instead of first because I will see references to the future that I remember from the sequel. and as a few of the comments have stated, having a series release timeline would be usually more important than a story timeline, though both would be nice.

Overall I think the release timeline should be auto-made by the system but then the story timeline could be updated by contributors afterwards.
