This is a very bad redesign.
In your blogpost (https://help.twitch.tv/s/article/mobile?language=en_US) you use the argument "viewers come to the Twitch app when they know their favorite streamer is going to be live and when they can dedicate a good chunk of time".
And a few lines bellow "we are redesigning the mobile app to put this feed front and center to make it easier than ever to discover, watch, and enjoy content"
Which one do you want? You're saying people want to watch their favorite streamer so you force on us home feed with content that you choose? How does this make any sense?
Now going with your 1st argument as the "reason":
How am I supposed to know whether my favorite streamer is live? With the new behavior a random (followed) stream is immediately playing without me being able to see my follow list. My immediate reaction is "why are you forcing this on me, I don't want this, give me my follow list" and quit the app. Yes, I WILL rather quit the app rather than looking for the weirdly positioned follow button in the upper left corner that is barely reachable with single hand on modern devices.
You are invading the user interaction way too much, forcing content that people very likely do NOT want to see, they want to look at their list and choose which one to go to. The 1st time I opened the app after the update you forced a random stream to play out of my 5 followed channels that were live at the time. This is not acceptable.
I do not want you to force content on me.
There need to be several changes:
#1: Bring back the follower list in the bottom menu. This is a must
#2: Do not force to randomly play a stream, be it followed or not followed. This is too invasive
#3: I can see the "home" being attractive to some people. However if it is gonna be kept, there MUST be an option for the app to start on the follower list with nothing playing immediately.
