With the old list UI you could see about 4 channel thumbnails in the view, start comparing who’s doing what, and making decisions about what to watch. It was a single scroll to see even more. With this new UI you have to swipe once per video, and you can’t compare channels without multiple swipes up and down. It’s really frustrating that it now takes at least 4x more interactions (swipes) to do what used to be doable in zero or a couple of interactions.

This experiment is now closed as the new mobile redesign is rolling out to all users. Thank you for all your feedback during the experiment. We released an update to respect your autoplay settings in the feed, muted the feed on open by default (you can adjust this in your settings), and added mute functionality directly to the feed to give you more control over your viewing experience. We also enabled PIP over feed and have been continuing to improve app performance since launch. Learn more about the new app on our blog and continue to share feedback with us on the improved experience in the mobile category on UserVoice.

I use my phone to play background audio or video on other apps. I also like to pop into twitch to first see what people are doing, and then if I find something interesting I’ll watch. This new autoplay immediately kills whatever background video/audio I have open and clobbers it with a Twitch stream I don’t want to watch. Just because I follow a streamer doesn’t necessarily mean I always or immediately want to watch what they’re currently doing. For instance, Jinnytty was sleeping this afternoon (not really something I’m interested in seeing) and for a good five hours, every time I opened the app, that was the first thing I’d see.

The new autoplay feels frustratingly jarring, especially if the streamer’s audio is loud with music, yelling or other noises. Please don’t initiate any video/audio until I’ve made the choice to commit to watching a Twitch stream, it feels really terrible.

It’s also now more difficult to find the list of streamers I follow, which is something I really like seeing when I open Twitch.

Also, I like to put streams in picture-in-picture and do other things on my phone, but with this new view, I get two video windows of the same stream, which is odd. It also freezes up sometimes and I have to force close the app.
