This would be particularly helpful to smaller channels, as restricted users, intent on getting banned, clog up chat, and if we ban them they just come back within a week on a brand new account with a fake verified phone number and email, bypassing chat restrictions.
Hiding it would be better as it's more likely they just leave for somewhere else since they can't get the attention they are looking for. I realise this is just passing the buck, but bigger streams at least have the benefit of the spam being lost almost immediately.
Additionally, many users won't be familiar with the feature, and therefore try and send several messages before getting frustrated and leaving, not realising it's tied to their account and not because of the messages themselves, and thus won't make a new account trying again.
At the very least, it should be possible for streamers to hide restricted comments, as opposed to having a giant beacon of disruption in chat.
