I completely understand your frustration — it does feel counterintuitive that names which aren’t being released to the public are still off-limits for the original owner. Even if stricter rules were in place, like a longer cooldown or a limited number of “saved” names per account, it seems reasonable that someone should be able to reclaim a name they’ve used for years.
I think your suggestion makes sense and could help reduce unnecessary hoops for users who just want a name they’ve had for a long time. Hopefully, Twitch can consider a system that balances account safety with flexibility for returning partners. Thanks for taking the time to bring this up!
I think this is a great idea! Verified accounts could help reduce spam, scams, and harmful behavior, while the /verifiedonly chat mode would create a safer space for everyone. Linking multiple accounts to the same verification is a smart way to prevent ban evasion. While I understand it might require more admin effort, the benefits in terms of security and trust could be well worth it. This would definitely improve the Twitch experience for both streamers and viewers.
