Limiting this to applications that act on behalf of the streamer and that belong to said streamer are safe ways to implement this to prevent bots. I have a particular use-case for this suggestion; my stream has an overlay that changes depending on the time of day, and the stream itself allows you to remote control a telescope. It would be a nice touch to be able to change my own profile image based on time of day/moon cycle. I cannot imagine someone needing to change their profile image more than twice, or three times a day, but since it's an always-on stream, I cannot be there to do it manually every time. Very insignificant in terms of calls and bandwidth in my opinion.
