For two years I've maintained an average of 1400 subscribers and that is because of the benevolence and generosity of my community. X gifts a sub to Y, Y gifts a sub to Z, Z drops 5 gifts. It is cyclical and sustainable.

I understand the notion of not counting gift subs for the set requirements, as someone could gift themself to the threshold and then use it as a tax write-off; but as this post lays out there should be tailored requirements that include those gifts. 700 minimum subscribers including gifts for 3 consecutive months brings twice the profit to Twitch as a corporation using a system that everyone has grown to love and utilize.

Gatekeeping generous communities who emphasize gifts and participate in Hype Trains from achieving the 70/30 split will only result in those communities considering stopping the gifts to encourage users to subscribe on their own. There is another path and it can be equally profitable for the company that must be explored.
