    The current policy pretty much punishes a streamer for receiving gift subs. Say Bob is being extremely generous and gifts 100 subs to CoolGuy1084's channel. If even 20 of those who recieved the gift sub were going to sub themselves later in the month, Bob hurt CoolGuy's chances of getting the new split by 20 subs. Those 20 got the subs for free instead of paying for the subs themselves, as they planned.

    It's just such a weird decision by Twitch. Gift subs shouldn't be discouraged.
