There now seems to be no point to hosting another channel when I am not streaming, as there is no indication on my channel page that I am doing so without jumping through hoops.
The useless video carousel defaults to the channel trailer video. If I remove the channel trailer, it defaults to the video of my last stream. The equally useless “customize your channel” button gives no options to choose what content will be shown by default in the carousel. A viewer landing on my page will have no way to know I am hosting someone else’s channel unless they:
1. Click through the video carousel until the hosted stream appears. NO ONE is going to do that.
2. Click on my username below the carousel. This brings you to the old layout stream player with the hosted channel playing. The game title displayed DOES NOT show the game/category of the hosted channel. Instead, it shows the game/category of the last thing I streamed. That is both confusing and useless.
Hosting another channel is one of the greatest features that Twitch has to engage viewers while a channel is offline. It helps create a sense of community by allowing viewers to discover channels with similar content. With this channel “redesign” you have rendered that feature essentially useless because it has been buried. A hosted channel should be the first thing a viewer sees in the content player when landing on an offline channel page.
If there is a way to have hosted channels appear by default, there is no obvious way to do so. Once again, you have removed a useful feature and rendered it totally useless.
