Hey all – thank you so much for all of your feedback around this change. We understand that this was a feature that many of you used in various situations, including the ability for Moderators to highlight or distinguish messages in Chat, and we agree that is important. We are listening to your ideas and feedback in this area – stay tuned for updates!

To provide context as to why we’ve made the decision to remove the original functionality of the /me command, we wanted to address the way this feature was being used to perpetrate abuse against members of our community. While we recognize this change is frustrating for some, the safety of our community remains our top priority.

This entire thread is a testament to how stupid a change this was and how this has only annoyed people rather than solve a safety issue. If the issue isn't the fake donate message non-sense, then explain what the "safety issue" is. It would be better than this half-assed response which you plastered on this issue before leaving the thread to rot at just above 5000 votes. In addition, this shows either a disregard for users or a disregard for the platform as a whole. In addition to benign stuff like this, there are constant issues on twitch. For example... "Wanna become famous?", The Twitch Authority, Hot tub streams. And despite all of this, you modify something which was used as a dumb prank by a small amount of viewers where the worst harm done was annoying a streamer who was most likely not familiar with twitch. If you aren't going to change it back, at least provide a better explanation then the generic "this feature was being used to perpetrate abuse against members of our community" would it kill you to be slightly more specific.

It has been an entire month since this idea was originally announced after the annoying change to the feature. If you are going to ruin a feature and turn a blind eye you might as well just remove it.

This is a very annoying change that should have been proposed before it was immediately enacted. /me is now a command that makes text harder to read and could be debatably harmful due to that fact. And this... "While we recognize this change is frustrating for some, the safety of our community remains our top priority." ...is only an issue for smaller streamers who don't know how the donations system functions. A better solution than causing this mess would to make a kind of bootcamp or something for smaller creators which includes this kind of information (If such a program doesn't exist). You could include information about common software and tools, extensions, engagement, chatbots, spam, moderation, configuring your channel, and the list goes on. Not only would this benefit the twitch community at large, it would mitigate the issue so you wouldn't even need to make this unneeded change.
