The Mission of SCDAA is to advocate for people affected by sickle cell conditions and empower community-based organizations to maximize quality of life and raise public consciousness while advancing the search for a universal cure.
Sickle cell anemia is one of a group of inherited disorders known as sickle cell disease. It affects the shape of red blood cells, which carry oxygen to all parts of the body.
Red blood cells are usually round and flexible, so they move easily through blood vessels. In sickle cell anemia, some red blood cells are shaped like sickles or crescent moons. These sickle cells also become rigid and sticky, which can slow or block blood flow.
There's no cure for most people with sickle cell anemia. Treatments can relieve pain and help prevent complications associated with the disease.
Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those who are affected by sickle cell disease!
Your tax-deductible donation to SCDAA will assist us in providing critical support services throughout the country at our 50+ chapters and affiliates. You also will help us raise vital funding for research that can advance new treatment options and ultimately find a universal cure.

This charity needs to be brought to light in the twitch community, more awareness needs to be showcased for everyone to learn and for people to advocate and teach others about this incurable disease.
I have friends that suffer from SCA and are not given much of a chance to tell the world about their disease and the struggles that come with it.
As a twitch streamer I would love the option to do charity streams for the organizations that mean the most to my friends, family and community

It’s time to bring those suffering from less talked about conditions into the spotlight and give the twitch community the opportunity to spread the love where it may not reach otherwise. We hear you!

More information needs to be shared and also it needs to be easier to find! Every Great Journey Begins With That FIRST Step. And with the proper knowledge, people could learn how they can help their family, friends and loved ones, past & present!!!

It’s sad how this is not spoken about enough despite there being thousands of people who suffer this disease. Why is this not on the list Twitch? The amount of votes and lack of awareness is very troubling. Yet there’s a foundation for CDC (who’s already government funded) very well doesn’t need a foundation to begin with. Wake up with your priorities, this is honestly very disturbing to see. We shouldn’t have to vote for something that clearly affects so many lives, but of course since there’s those who are so ignorant, we have to.

I would love to help raise money for SCDAA. I have a viewer who suffers from it and it hurts me knowing how painful daily life is for him and I would really love to help him and others who suffer from it, Especially since it affects the POC community and there is currently no permanent cure other than bi-weekly blood transfusions as current operations are rarely done because it is so risky.

"A group of disorders that cause red blood cells to become misshapen and break down.
With sickle cell disease, an inherited group of disorders, red blood cells contort into a sickle shape. The cells die early, leaving a shortage of healthy red blood cells (sickle cell anemia), and can block blood flow causing pain (sickle cell crisis).
Infections, pain, and fatigue are symptoms of sickle cell disease.
Treatments include medications, blood transfusions, and rarely a bone-marrow transplant."
