Only Allow Accounts with 2FA to Access Your Channel
Only allow accounts with 2fa enabled to watch your stream
There are a host of problems on Twitch and I feel as though this idea could be a solution to some of the bigger ones.
I suggest giving streamers the option to only allow accounts with 2fa to access their channel. Make it an option for the individual streamer and make it toggleable.
In order for this to work, Twitch must do more than just “not allow the user to use chat.” Twitch needs to stop them from accessing the streamer’s channel all together. The same needs to be done for users who are banned/blocked but that is a whole other discussion.
There should also be a way to have this feature enabled, but with a customizable exemption list so that streamers can still allow their nightbots, moobots, etc access.
As someone who has faced harassment from a person viewbotting me for 10 months now, this is one of the only solutions I can think of to combat this. By only allowing accounts connected to a phone number to access my page, I would no longer be harassed this way.
It would also eliminate the problem of people constantly harassing with alternate accounts.
It would also be a good option for when someone is playing a new game and wants to stop people from using alt accounts to spoil.
These are just a few benefits I could see coming out of this!
Please Twitch, it is time to do more to protect your creators. As someone whose issues have been constantly pushed aside, I ask that you consider this solution not just for me, but for every streamer that’s faced harassment as I have.
Id to love to see a 2fa being used more globally on the site- especially as a chat filter, requiring users to type in chat.
Having "users must be logged in to watch streams" would also be a good idea as twitch already has sub streams, so adding more mechanics to this is good
these are very simple options that keep the most marginalized people on this platform safe as well as everyone else.
This would be so helpful for Account Security and would be beneficial for Moderation. 10/10 Idea
How about if a channel has this feature enabled anyone that doesn't have 2FA enabled just gets an endless stream of ads when they click on the channel? That's extra security and extra ad revenue for you, Twitch.
Requiring 2FA to be able to not only count as a view, but to chat, would eliminate the majority, if not entirely all malicious view/chat botting on Twitch. This is something Twitch should take priority on as well as proper DMCA documentation and appeal processes.
Bot accounts have flooded Twitch and are all over the place now. One bot can be seen in as many as 50,000+ streams at one time. This is something blocking streamers that would not only benefit from being Partner, but would greatly benefit Twitch as a whole by having a new Partner, are being blocked out of having the opportunity entirely by these bot accounts harassing Twitch and these streamers.
When you bolster the user base with good required security practices, not only are more accounts more secure (stopping the mass amounts of account breaches as per the past with the millions and millions of accounts having their account details stolen), this also allows for easier moderation on the platform in the long term future with moderators not having to question every user that enters chat wondering if they are a bot.
This is something that would greatly benefit the platform. Bringing every user back into TOS who are unintentionally breaking it by having bots enter their streams (not by their request), and reduce the number of users alternate accounts that sometimes can also bolster viewer numbers (also not always by the streamers request).
If we can get this pushed forward and implemented, I feel Twitch would be a much safer and positive platform to be apart of.
I would definitely use this!
10/10 would use 2fa.
This would help protect streamers from bots, trolls, and alts all in one go. It's a much needed change!
Yes! Twitch please consider adding 2fa. So many upsides to this!
100% agree!! Twitch please, this would be so helpful!
Please make this happen, Twitch.
Twitch needs to do more to protect streamers. This is a good first step.
This sounds good! Always gonna do anything to make sure streamers are better protected.
get it done twitch! found like 3 of these posts already, it's very popular and needed.
This would essentially make a channel unbottable, while also giving real users even more incentive to enable 2FA and make their accounts more secure, all in one fell swoop. This is a no-brainer, twitch. Make it happen.
100% agree with this for the betterment of content creators.
I approve of this message.
