Allow Nudity
Since the creation of twitch creative last year, there's been a great community growing. Twitch has made a new and exciting platform for artists to connect with their audience that hasn't really existed before. It allows for such a personal connection between the art, artist, and viewer. When I see artwork from an artist that I watch regularly, not only do I see their beautiful creation, I remember special moments when they completed a section of their work.
On October 28th, 2015, when Twitch creative was announced on the Twitch blog they wrote, ”We expect to learn much about what is, and is not, appropriate for Twitch as the community grows.”
After a year of silence, I hope that the community can get some answers and solutions to this important issue.
For clarity here are the terms of service regarding nudity.
For Twitch gaming:
“Nudity can't be a core focus or feature of the game in question, and modded nudity is disallowed in its entirety. Occurrences of in-game nudity are permitted, so long as you do not make them a primary focus of your broadcast and only spend as much time as needed in the area to progress the game's story.”
For Twitch Creative:
“We are working on ways to ensure that artists can produce the work that they want, while also fostering a safe space for the community as a whole. We ask that you refrain from creating or using depictions of nudity or extreme violence until those features are implemented.”
For gaming, nudity can't be the primary focus. For creative, nudity can't be shown at all.
These rules imposed upon the creative community, cripple creators and the viewers knowledge from such a fundamental core of drawing, the human anatomy. Artists want to share their creative process, including their skills as they improve. How can they improve when the necessary knowledge of human anatomy is forbidden?
When game designers make a choice to have nudity in their games, the majority of the time it's for sexualized purposes.
However what the creative community wants is to at least have nudity as an educational tool to build upon our skills as artists to further our understanding of anatomy.
Today you can view nudity in games, however if there's a drawing thats somewhat suggestive it's a bannable offense.
Just as flowers, sunsets, and mountains are useful tools in the artist’s toolkit, the unadorned human body can be an essential tool to express the pure emotion of what the artist is trying to convey. Artists use nudity as a tool to focus attention on the human form, and not irrelevant aspects like how their shirts are buttoned, how clothing is being draped, or whether they are wearing the most stylish kind of hat. And if the point of art is to primarily express ideas about the nature of humanity and our role in the world, then it would be natural to expect the nude body would be among the most powerful of those expressive tools.
Artists deserve the same level of freedom as gamers. To put a lid on our talent diminishes the range of appreciation for the human condition and causes us to constantly edit our creativity.
I want the artwork I experience to be created with the best training, the most creative ideas, and the widest freedom to use all those things to make the most excellent works that best efforts can achieve. To do any less would make the world a worse place to live.
You allow gamers to play their games. Allow artists to create their masterpieces.

People keep commenting that their are other places. But there's only really 1 other place to stream creative and it's filled with the most tasteless works you'll find beyond deviant art. Combined with the fact that other places lack the viewers just makes it not-reasonable.
If you're going to try to teach any visual art then you need to teach human anatomy at some point. There is absolutely no way around it. It is as fundamental as it gets.

Agreed, Twitch has been the only streaming platform I've been on that doesn't allow creatives to draw human anatomy for study and educational purposes. Yes there are other places, but twitch has the community and following. I like to do 30-60 second warm ups with drawing the nude for teaching... but... I cant.
I would limit it to those that are Twitch Affiliates and make sure the stream it marked for adults. And like above mentioned, its not the focus, cant show sexual acts, violence or anything that would be considered porn.

Also, it's been like 2-3 years now!

Please allow this since figure drawing is a huge part of my practice and I am doing renaissance-style oil paintings which include full nudity. In parts of Canada, being topless in public has been unbanned... it's a bit ridiculous having to work with this as nudity is a huge part of art ever since its inception. Make streams marked as mature, and that's it. I don't even do erotic art, so it's annoying I have to dance around showing a nipple.

Are we still living in the 12th century? Get rid of this backward thinking.. Woman are not objects.. They are humans! Nudity is the most natural thing in the world... to censor nudity is bat shit crazy, especially when it comes to artistic freedom! Get rid of these nonsene rules or lose a whole community... Youtube won't be f..... around for long and when they get their shit together Twitch will be a footnote in history! Have a great day....

I totally agree with everything jamiechesnut said.
I think a bunch of these comments about women 'selling themselves' and 'cleavage' are completely undermining what he is trying to do. You're derailing.
However you feel about women who stream who are good looking or show cleavage, you are basically tearing down the female form while at the same time saying that tasteful nudity is okay. Which is it? You're contributing to the problem. EVERYONE who streams is selling some part of themselves, whether or not it's their time, their talent, their work or their looks. If you can't get on the same page and support each other, the system falls apart.
Being jealous is just petty. Let's get past that.

Seems like a fair enough request to me. Hard to argue against centuries of artistic history.

Nude studies have been a part of art throughout history. Twitch has turned a blind eye on nudity in the context of gaming on appropriately rated channels, why should the artists on Twitch Creative be held to a different standard? I support an artist's creative freedom to express themselves without puritanical restriction

Yes, please make it so I can draw cleavage and not get banned for it again when you allow streamers to full cam half naked already.

Viewer discretion is "highly advised" at my channel. You know me.

I was learning anatomy before on stream and i was FREAKING OUT about being baned because i was drawing the female anatomy.
In all reality i i made sure that the drawing was not to detailed around "controversial spots" just for this reason, but how is that helping artists grow and how does that make us able to share what we are learning if we have to leave parts of a drawing out?But yeah, i vote for this, and in all reality if your drawing nudity, as long as its not used in a "sexual way" then it should be fine, but banning it up front is unacceptable...

I vote FOR on this mainly because Twitch has evolved to accommodate SO many people and their interests. I just hope that if approved - Twitch lays down some very strict TOS and holds creative streamers accountable. There will be a line drawn to not be crossed. It would open so many doors for so many other artists = a healthy, growing creative community.

Tasteful Nudity isn't Porn!

I believe that it should be allowed as long as it's practiced safely and the caster has the "mature" audience box checked off. We do have a large young user base but if we can have casters play Conan why not allow an artist to sculpt, draw, etc anatomy. Obviously this would need to be monitored but I feel the creative community knows where the line is and how to avoid crossing it.

Mature people can handle mature subjects in mature ways. I understand that twitch originally banned nudity so they wouldn't have to be legally liable if someone broke the terms of service to get in to a mature channel while under age. the gamers fought to get twitch to allow games with incidental nudity. and it warms my heart to see the artists on the same path, There is -nothing- wrong with the naked form. especially in art. and especially when handled maturely. I support this.

Yes please. Its absolutely ridiculous that its not allowed.

@Thanatis, then equal consideration should be given to video games with nudity.

If a simple thing as cleavage can get a toxic girl streamer money and views allowing nudity in drawings will be much worse.
Yes you can have nudity that is art such as statues in roman period, but now in modern times you will have hentai drawings and such.
The line between porn and art will be a hard line and is not needed since their are other sites such as deviant art where you can post your nude drawings for others to see.
Weather you consider it art or not twitch should not have nudity.

I agree that artistic nudity should be allowed with a "mature content" tag. I also agree with the point about so much violence in games, but the nude human form being depicted with charcoal or paint is such a big no no. I think there is a huge difference between classy art nudes vs blatant pornographic material. The latter, I agree, is not one least bit appropriate for twitch.

I'd support it for drawing certain things (as long as it's not excessive porn), but there already are so many women selling their bodies on streams and I was always glad Twitch didn't have a focus on that, but by allowing nudity in general this is what it would end up with.
