Multi language tag on stream dashboard (more than 2 or 3 if possible)
Many people in the world i believe mostly at least bilingual, or even rarely some people speak Trilingual and Multilingual, so in the dashboard let us for streamers to choose what language are we broadcasting. For example "English" and "Chinese or "Korean" and "English" or even rarely maybe? "English" + "Korean" + "German"
Hey there!
Though we have not yet added support for multiple language tags, we have added more than 350 new options that we think may help out with this particular ask.
For more information, you can take a look at our blog post at https://blog.twitch.tv/en/2021/05/26/celebrate-yourself-and-your-community-with-350-new-tags/. Thank you for your feedback and ideas!
We will leave this topic open for now for further discussion around whether this meets the needs of the request.

There is a massive amount of streamers that stream in different langauges at the same time, however it seems that you cant add multiple langauges to your tags. such as, all finnish streamers I watch that support speaking and streaming in english are using the tag "england", due to not having the ability to add a proper English tag. Is there a major concerning reason why this is? pls fix

It would be great if there was an opportunity to set several languages for the stream in the stream manager. Since I know more than 1 languages, I would like to put these 2 languages on my broadcast in order to reach as large an audience as possible.

I don't understand why this would be limited in the first place? Who asked for that?

Give the option to add multiple languages in stream manager. A lot of streamers speak more than one language, even during their streams. It would also be nice if a viewer knows he can join the chat in his own language.

I like the idea! I do stream in English and Arabic and would appreciate the multi tags.

'Multilingual', 'Polyglot' or "Language Learning" tags would all be great additions to the new tags. So far the only alternative streamers have is adding extra language information in stream titles, which can't be searched. I try to speak with viewers in any language that I can hold a conversation in and a large portion of my community is also studying multiple languages, so we frequently discuss words and phrases in other languages. Not to mention, since many streams are strictly one language only, this is such an important distinction to make for viewers. This would be a great way for people who share a passion for languages and/or multilingual backgrounds to find eachother!

Totally agree with octagon_sun here. Especially the part about language learning communities. So many people like to help with language learning and it's difficult to distinguish between those who speak the language natively, fluently, or those that are still learning and might still need assistance.
The workarounds are nice, but I feel like language tags could be handled much more elegantly here.

Yep. octagon_sun's response right below is one example I knew could happen but couldn't think of. There we go.

I would just like to add that multilingual tagging would still be highly appreciated. The new tags are lovely (tho the 5 tag limit is starting to get a bit tight haha), but I feel cautious using them because I don't want to miscommunicate to my community and especially people who don't know me because of the strong ties between language and ethnicity.
For instance, I speak Spanish and English but I'm not ethnically latino or Spanish in any form (ethnically, I'm a descendant of mostly English colonists in the United States). Using the Spanish language tag with the American national tag is probably the most accurate, but it puts a barrier between me and my English audience. To say nothing of how uncomfortable it is to use the term American in its national sense with a Spanish audience-my friends in Guatemala, Chile, Mexico, etc. are all Americans too because they're from the Americas (there are some in the Americas who take issue with "American"="someone from the US" for this reason and I don't disagree with them). But if I use a tag like El Salvador, where my Spanish is from, that entirely miscommunicates my identity. Or the fact that Spanish is also a nationality, so a plain-language Spanish tag doesn't distinguish between nationality or language.
I provide this as a case example of why the new tags don't replace the need for multilingual tags.
As a suggestion, handling language tags slightly apart could help, e.g., lang tags could read Language:Spanish, Language:English, Language:Russian, etc to distinguish between them, whereas the national or ethnic version could just read Spanish, English, etc. And it may also be prudent for multilingual users to be able to sort by language expertise, such as:
PRIMARY: LangX, LangY
SECONDARY: LangZ
LEARNING: LangAso people coming into stream know how the streamer uses any given language. Esp. since lang-learning streams and streamers who are trying to learn langs are a noteable subcommunity that could better connect with tagging like this.

English speaking streamer from Poland here :) Happy to see that I can now add a Polish nationality tag to and have "english" on my stream.
I really hope for twitch to add a "bilingual" or multilingual tag.
Thank you! -

I just watched the stream in that post about how they are going to work. I'll leave my previous comment up.
Here is what I learned in it: They are still looking at it on how to deal with multiple languages, however we can already use one tag for language and another for nationality. For bilingual people this might be a good way, not ideal though, to meet this need. For now, this will work for me.

It all depends on how those automatic tags about language are applied.
Because if it is by "language used in chat and stream audio" there might be moments where everyone in a stream is speaking in only one language but they still welcome and do speak in others. Should they keep talking in several languages all the time to make sure all the correct tags are up?

PLEASE. It's a huge disadvantage to have to put [JP/EN] in all my titles. It instantly makes them all shorter.

Please we need that!

I am bilingual and I stream using both Polish and English but many people who find my stream don't read the title fully where I use "(ENG/PL)" to mark the fact that there are 2 languages on stream. I am forced to pick one (I go with English) but I feel like any new viewers get put out by the fact that they come in thinking it is English only stream and I am suddenly speaking Polish. Allow for multiple languages so bilinguals, trilinguals etc can stream without this worry.

Many of us are bilingual or multilingual, and have to write all the languages in the stream title. The ability to have multiple tags would help a lot.
-
feyMorgaina commented
Yes, there's not enough room in the stream title to list all the languages we're learning or using during that stream. The extra tags would help this growing community.

Though it may not have been Twitch's purpose, many language learners have been inspired by chat's ability to have multilingual conversations to actually start learning new languages! To this day the Duolingo community finds chat as one of the funnest ways to further their language learning endeavors! There's a bigger market for language learning on Twitch than it's been realised!
