Pending Cover Art placeholder image I actually like the new placeholder image for missing covers on entries, however, the same image will show for pending uploads to new covers while the system caches the preview. This can be confusing to new users that don't understand they simply need to wait for their submission to upload before it displays. A separate "preview pending" image would help to communicate this to new users.

Actually be a database of all games Currently the IGDB is only a database of video games but is the canonical source of twitch's game list. It should include all games if it wants to be called the IGDB and not IVGDB. This includes board and card games that do not have a digital version. This choice on the data front results in non-digital games all having to be lumped into the broad board game category and having to push for individual inclusion. Either make all video games jump through the same hoops or make IGDB live up to its name.
2 votesHey there!
Understandable about the naming expectation, but i can confirm that at this point in time, and the near future at least IGDB is strictly focused on video games.
Few reasons for this:
- Coming up with video game taxonomy to set industry standard is already a monument of a task, and it makes sense for us to narrow down this goal by excluding board games, card games and other physical types.
- Twitch does have some very unique use cases beyond video games, which is why there is a distinction in being the database that powers Twitch’s gaming need, rather than being Twitch’s database itself. Our data being used by many more services than Twitch alone, we remain focused right now on video games.It’s totally possible that in a long term vision we start tackling taxonomy of non-video game products, but likely not in the near future…

Prototype datatype There are many games that ended up becoming a different game, or with prototypes so different from the official release that deserve a main entry in the database, but now there's no right way to link them (the datatypes now don't match this description, and the versions are likely to be used only to editions). A few wxamples:
EarthBound 64 / Mother 3
Gimmick Land / Tomato Adventure
Donkey Kong Racing / Sabreman Stampede
Rayman SNES / Rayman2 votes -
Link publishers and release dates I'd like a way to link releases and publishers. For instance, a game might have been published by Midway in North America and Taito in Japan. Right now there's no way to distinguish such information, and both appear as publishers with no additional information. Also, a game might have been published by different companies at different times on the same platform - this would also be helpful to be able to differentiate.

import your exported data IGDB have ability to export your data, which is greate, and it would be nice to have a way to import this exported data back to your account.
2 votesHey there!
Could you clarity what do you mean by data in this case, is it to do with the lists and ratings in particular?
Curious to learn more about such a use case, is there a particular need to re-upload the exported CSV or Excel document rather than use the website?
Thanks!

Hi!
Could you give us more information what you mean in this case? By status do you mean adding a new one along side Alpha, Beta, Early Access, Cancelled etc..?
If so how would you define Dropped, it sounds like it would be similar to cancelled, as in the development has been in definitely put on hold.
Thanks!

The ability to link Gamejolt with your games The ability to link a gamejolt.com page with your games since most of my games are on Gamejolt and i'd like to make categories for them
2 votesHi!
We looked into this and we thought that indeed adding Gamejolt might be a good fit. This has been added to our backlog and we’ll take a look at it when we can.
Thank you for the suggestion!

Wikidata Add Wikidata item related to the game. Wikidata links to IGDB and this could be a way for IGDB to link back to Wikidata.

Versions of Sonic the Hedgehog When trying to tag my stream as the game Sonic the Hedgehog (the 2006/2007 game for Xbox 360 and PS3), it is impossible to tag in any list or drop down, be it Twitch, Twitch Studio, OBS, Streamlabs, etc. I see that the game is on IGDB, so why doesn't the game ever show up?

More default lists: dropped, on-hold Self-explanatory.
Additional keywords: abandoned, shelved, paused

Platform_Version missing on platform-version-release-dates A user wanted to sort the release dates of platform versions by date and get the name of the version. But could not since platform-version-release-dates field platform_version is missing.
Example query:
https://api.igdb.com/v4/platform_version_release_dates
fields *, platform_version.name; sort date desc; limit 500;
Expected: A sorted list of platform version release dates and the name of the platform version name
Actual: A sorted list of platform version release dates without the platform version data.

I created list called playing and set it to private. Turns out this was reserved name for special list. Well now my playing list is private and I can't change it.

Differentiating Titles with Identical Names in Menus This is only a minor pet-peeve and super conditional, but there are times when Titles with the same name are released in the same year. This makes it fairly difficult to differentiate titles from each other when you are adding titles into various lists in the Edit menus. (Bundled Games, Versions, etc.) Most of the time you will see a year of the release in these menus, but there are examples of different versions released in the same year.
I will sometimes add the platform to the title of a game to help this, but this isn't the cleanest look…

Game and platform icon For games and platforms there could be an icon imagem, of small size, which could be used as a visualization flair on the website and also as a data point for the API, as applications could use them to their UIs.

Game list missing from some company pages On a number of company pages, the game list does not appear, and games associated with the company can only be viewed within the timeline element (which does not display games without a release date, and is slow to reflect updates). This issue seems prevalent among company pages with relatively few games, although that might not be the direct cause.

Popularity attribute not functional The current popularity value for a game doesn't make any sense.
Please see below examples showing the popularity value with the hypes, and number of user ratings."id": 115278,
"hypes": 1,
"name": "Rune Factory 4 Special",
"popularity": 2090.622837928576"id": 120268,
"name": "Zombie Driver: Immortal Edition",
"popularity": 1431.973719413489As you can see, the top 2 games by popularity both have 0 user ratings. How can these be the most popular games on IGDB?
The docs say 'The popularity number is calculated using usage statistics of game pages at https://www.igdb.com' which can't possibly be true if these games are at the…

We’re not currently supporting popularity unfortunately, the existing hypes in the API are out of date and therefore out of sync, which is very likely why you’re getting those games as results.
We will be updating our documentation to reflect this, but meanwhile we recommend not using Popularity since it isn’t providing an accurate count.
