Separate entries/ratings for ports of games. Games' ratings may be skewed or conflicting if they have wildly different ports.
For example, "The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning" has its console ports, which are fundamentally the same, but it also has a 2D side-scroller port for GBA, and an isometric port for DS; both vary greatly (especially the GBA port) from the console release. Another example is Shrek 2, where the PC port is effectively an entirely different game from the console ports (and the matching PC port was called "Shrek 2: Team Action!")
Metacritic already separates game ratings by every port, and imo that's how…
3 votesHey there!
You are 100% correct on this :) We would consider the GBA, DS, and DS releases as Ports in the sense they deserve their own pages on IGDB so they can be rated & reviewed individually.
This is indeed a perfect example for ports. In this case it’s simply that we haven’t got around to split the releases and clean up the data.
Thanks for pointing it out, we’ll get right on it!
Dropping the link to our guidelines Ports just in case as well: https://github.com/twitchtv/igdb-contribution-guidelines/wiki/Game-Types

Link Duplicates to the Parent Version Since there are reasons for duplicated not been removed quickly, I suggest providing a way to quickly link from a duplicate to it's original. I.e. Game Type as duplicate. This would have the added benefit of adding duplicates to the standard changes queue

Add a field for a URL for a Microsoft Store page As I was in the process of adding a game to the database, I was shown a list of fields into which I could enter URLs to that game's pages on various stores (Steam, GOG, Epic, etc.) but there was no URL field for the Microsoft Store. Why? The Microsoft Store has to be one of the most popular digital game sources. When IGDB adds a field for a Microsoft Store URL, I will edit the game's entry on IGDB to add a link to that game's Microsoft Store page.
3 votesHeya! Thanks for the suggestion, definitely a good one.
As a matter of fact we have plans this year to introduce stores, and possibly linking them to “Platforms”. You are correct that windows, XOne, X360 etc.. all have different stores so they would need separate implementation.
Stay tuned!

hardware bundles / mini consoles It would be nice to add 'hardware bundles' of games to the database. With NES & SNES Classic Mini, Mega Drive Mini, Neo Geo Classic, Playstation Classic Mini, Capcom home arcade, 1Up Arcades and several other mini consoles on the market, it would be nice to integrate those as 'hardware bundles' - bundles of existing games that are bundled in one hardware release.
it could be realised with a dedicated category like Main Game, DLC, Bundle,… or just marked as Bundle. The platform where it is released could be either specific for each release or could be one general "hardware…3 votesHeya!
We recently discussed adding the ‘retro classic’ mini consoles on IGDB, likely as a Version to the main consoles. While that would help having the data for the hardware itself, currently we wouldn’t be able to have a listing of game for a particular console version. Which can prove tricky for some specific edge cases, Starfox 2 comes to mind being exclusive to SNES Mini for example.
I can confirm adding to those consoles is on our backlog as an initial step, platform Bundles though would probably be a separate task.
Thanks!

Game revisions Game revisions (like Alpha, Beta,1.0,1.1,1.2,2.0, etc) would be good for reviews, because the game can change since someone reviewed the game. Even old games have revision (Rev 1, Rev 2, like in the No-Intro notation). It is not a particularly needed data point, but some games change a lot with time.

More data for collections and franchises Please add posters, background art, and summary for collections and franchises.
Comparing a collection on TheMovieDB -> https://www.themoviedb.org/collection/645-james-bond-collection
To one on IGDB -> https://www.igdb.com/collections/james-bond
You can see it's pretty lacking on IGDB. Hope this can be improved!

Spongebob Squarepants featuring Nicktoons: Globs of Doom As a speedrunner of Spongebob Squarepants featuring Nicktoons: Globs of Doom it's hard to gain new viewers who may be interested because there is no category for this game and this should be changed.

Game icon There's already a request for logos and I would like to add this request for icons, like the ones used for the game shortcuts.
It is common for computer games to have them, and some other platforms have icons of the games in some places (like on the memory card management system).2 votes -
Prototype datatype There are many games that ended up becoming a different game, or with prototypes so different from the official release that deserve a main entry in the database, but now there's no right way to link them (the datatypes now don't match this description, and the versions are likely to be used only to editions). A few wxamples:
EarthBound 64 / Mother 3
Gimmick Land / Tomato Adventure
Donkey Kong Racing / Sabreman Stampede
Rayman SNES / Rayman2 votes -
Game image catalog naming convention as altenative titles Some of the games don't get results through the API because the names used by ROM (and other game images) documenting organizations have some rules that don't apply to IGDB's main title rule.
Some of them:
If the title starts with an article, it goes to the end of the title. (Legend of Zelda, The)
If there is a non-standard character, like slashes, quotes, etc, they are removed.
The Japanese naming scheme uses double vowels instead of singles ones.It would be good to have as an alternative title option something like: "Alternative title - No-Intro Naming Convention".
I'm pretty…

Game and platform icon For games and platforms there could be an icon imagem, of small size, which could be used as a visualization flair on the website and also as a data point for the API, as applications could use them to their UIs.

3DTV support Not a fan personally, but it might be worth documenting with a simple Yes/No Checkbox.
Ex. Jak & Daxter Collection PS3, Resistance 3, Uncharted 3, etc.

Add Reboot of for series It would be nice to distinguish between spin-offs and reboot.
Just saw the "new" Tomb Raiders are under the series "Tomb Raider: Survivor" instead of the original Tomb Raider, which make sense; what doesn't make sense is that this series is tagged as a spin-off of the original, while it is actually a reboot of the Tomb Raider series.Imho, spin-offs is are series like Mana or Kingdom Hearts for Final Fantasy series, or standalone titles like Dirge of Cerberus for Final Fantasy VII.
Which leads to the need of distinguish between series spin-off/reboot and standalone spin-offs.1 vote -
Market value It would be nice to have a market value field for the games.
When looking for a game we do not own, it would be nice to understand how much it would cost to get it.
It's easier for newer games as they're available in stores, but for old games available only by second hand it would be nice to have an idea of the average market price (maybe looking at platforms like eBay or similar).1 vote -
Achievement/Trophy data Add the information about the game achievements/trophies.
I know there are dozen of websites doing it, but today it is to be considered a fundamental information of a game release.
We might argue about the possibility for the users to track the obtained one, but a list of available attainments should be displayed on a game entry.1 vote -
New parameter to multiplayer modes endpoint It would be nice if the endpoint multiplayer modes provides a boolean "isGameOnline" and "isGameOffline" (or something like that), showing if the game is entirely offline, entirely online or the both. For example, Dark Souls can be played online or offline, so the parameters will be set to "true". Cuphead, for example, would have the first parameter set to “false” and the second as "true" because the game does not offer a way to play online. I'm sure this simple parameter can be extremely useful!
