How it works:
  • Choose a relevant category for your idea and check to see if any other users have already submitted this suggestion before creating your own
  • Be clear with your suggestion, provide examples and solutions to the problem you are posing. Suggestions without actionable feedback may be closed without comment
  • Upvote existing ideas, as opposed to creating multiple similar requests
  • Be sure to share your suggestion with others to gain more support!
  • Note: Suggestions are not guarantees that we will take action on an idea. We will try our best to communicate why an idea may not work, but may not always be able to share that information.

  1. Currently, IGDB provides all the current CERO age ratings [A, B, C, D, Z], but not the pre-March of 2006 ratings [ALL, 12, 15, 18], which the organization still considers.

  2. Currently the IGDB is only a database of video games but is the canonical source of twitch's game list. It should include all games if it wants to be called the IGDB and not IVGDB. This includes board and card games that do not have a digital version. This choice on the data front results in non-digital games all having to be lumped into the broad board game category and having to push for individual inclusion. Either make all video games jump through the same hoops or make IGDB live up to its name.

    Hey there!

Understandable about the naming expectation, but i can confirm that at this point in time, and the near future at least IGDB is strictly focused on video games.

    Few reasons for this:
    - Coming up with video game taxonomy to set industry standard is already a monument of a task, and it makes sense for us to narrow down this goal by excluding board games, card games and other physical types.
    - Twitch does have some very unique use cases beyond video games, which is why there is a distinction in being the database that powers Twitch’s gaming need, rather than being Twitch’s database itself. Our data being used by many more services than Twitch alone, we remain focused right now on video games.

It’s totally possible that in a long term vision we start tackling taxonomy of non-video game products, but likely not in the near future…

  3. Games' ratings may be skewed or conflicting if they have wildly different ports.

For example, "The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning" has its console ports, which are fundamentally the same, but it also has a 2D side-scroller port for GBA, and an isometric port for DS; both vary greatly (especially the GBA port) from the console release. Another example is Shrek 2, where the PC port is effectively an entirely different game from the console ports (and the matching PC port was called "Shrek 2: Team Action!")

Metacritic already separates game ratings by every port, and imo that's how…

    Hey there!

You are 100% correct on this :) We would consider the GBA, DS, and DS releases as Ports in the sense they deserve their own pages on IGDB so they can be rated & reviewed individually.

This is indeed a perfect example for ports. In this case it’s simply that we haven’t got around to split the releases and clean up the data.

Thanks for pointing it out, we’ll get right on it!

Dropping the link to our guidelines Ports just in case as well: https://github.com/twitchtv/igdb-contribution-guidelines/wiki/Game-Types

  4. Since there are reasons for duplicated not been removed quickly, I suggest providing a way to quickly link from a duplicate to it's original. I.e. Game Type as duplicate. This would have the added benefit of adding duplicates to the standard changes queue

  6. It would be nice to add 'hardware bundles' of games to the database. With NES & SNES Classic Mini, Mega Drive Mini, Neo Geo Classic, Playstation Classic Mini, Capcom home arcade, 1Up Arcades and several other mini consoles on the market, it would be nice to integrate those as 'hardware bundles' - bundles of existing games that are bundled in one hardware release.
it could be realised with a dedicated category like Main Game, DLC, Bundle,… or just marked as Bundle. The platform where it is released could be either specific for each release or could be one general "hardware…

    Heya!
We recently discussed adding the ‘retro classic’ mini consoles on IGDB, likely as a Version to the main consoles.

While that would help having the data for the hardware itself, currently we wouldn’t be able to have a listing of game for a particular console version. Which can prove tricky for some specific edge cases, Starfox 2 comes to mind being exclusive to SNES Mini for example.

I can confirm adding to those consoles is on our backlog as an initial step, platform Bundles though would probably be a separate task.

    Thanks!

  7. Game revisions (like Alpha, Beta,1.0,1.1,1.2,2.0, etc) would be good for reviews, because the game can change since someone reviewed the game. Even old games have revision (Rev 1, Rev 2, like in the No-Intro notation). It is not a particularly needed data point, but some games change a lot with time.

  8. While there is the Amstrad CPC and Amstrad PCW, the GX4000 (which was Amstrad's only attempt at a home video game console) is not listed. It even had its own library of games (some enhanced for it).

Would it be possible to add that?

  9. It would be nice to have the option to add a character's role into the database, like:

    • Main Character
    • Side Character
    • Villain/Enemy
    • Random NPC

  10. Hi! It would be really great to include something like an 'input' option so you can find games with native gyro aiming.

I'm always trying to find good gyro coop fps games to play with my girlfriend (I can only really do it with gyro) and it takes a LOT of google searching, it's a massive pain..

I don't think it's necessary to include Steam gyro, just eg PS4 / PS5 and Switch games that have it built in.

There's hardly any games so it wouldn't take long to have it all complete, but the list is hopefully growing, especially…

  11. It would be nice to have a market value field for the games.
When looking for a game we do not own, it would be nice to understand how much it would cost to get it.
It's easier for newer games as they're available in stores, but for old games available only by second hand it would be nice to have an idea of the average market price (maybe looking at platforms like eBay or similar).

  12. Add the information about the game achievements/trophies.
I know there are dozen of websites doing it, but today it is to be considered a fundamental information of a game release.
We might argue about the possibility for the users to track the obtained one, but a list of available attainments should be displayed on a game entry.

  13. It would be nice if the endpoint multiplayer modes provides a boolean "isGameOnline" and "isGameOffline" (or something like that), showing if the game is entirely offline, entirely online or the both. For example, Dark Souls can be played online or offline, so the parameters will be set to "true". Cuphead, for example, would have the first parameter set to “false” and the second as "true" because the game does not offer a way to play online. I'm sure this simple parameter can be extremely useful!

  15. While you can enter something into entries in Keywords, and the Guidelines require a title to have completed the funded stage of any crowdfunding effort, it would be nice to include a Data Points on a title being started in a crowdfunded effort such as a checkbox of a title was funded this way. Or, a Release/Status date that you could denote the date in which it was funded.

It would also be helpful to link the original funding pages like Kickstarter, Indigogo, and others.

  19. Please add posters, background art, and summary for collections and franchises.

    Comparing a collection on TheMovieDB -> https://www.themoviedb.org/collection/645-james-bond-collection

To one on IGDB -> https://www.igdb.com/collections/james-bond

You can see it's pretty lacking on IGDB. Hope this can be improved!
