How it works:
  • Choose a relevant category for your idea and check to see if any other users have already submitted this suggestion before creating your own
  • Be clear with your suggestion, provide examples and solutions to the problem you are posing. Suggestions without actionable feedback may be closed without comment
  • Upvote existing ideas, as opposed to creating multiple similar requests

  1. Add Russia as region in release date. A lot of Russian exclusive games out there, and also those that do came out to the rest of Europe.

  2. Right now there seems to be some confusion with the available options for Genres and Themes. Some options are missing, others are in Themes whereas they would make more sense in Genres, and yet others are way too broad to be descriptive and informative.

My suggestion is first to determine what is a Genre and what is a Theme, and convey that to all the data contributors. I suggest to define "Genre" as something that indicates HOW the game is played (gameplay rules and elements), and "Theme" as something that indicates WHERE the game is played (setting and lore elements).

    Hey!

First of all thanks a lot for putting this table together, this for sure will become handy when we research this further.

We’ve been wanting to revamp our Genres/Themes/Keywords for a while, it’s a fairly big undertaking that implies a taxonomy upgrade.
We’ve discussed making use of a sub categories to avoid redundancy and more accuracy for example.

While this isn’t on our radar just yet, i would say it is pretty high up our list of feature upgrade. We’ll keep in touch when we start this project!

  4. Adding a Full/Partial Controller Support column for titles in the database.

This would be monumental for indexing games that can be played from the couch or not.

  5. It would be great if your database had a link to live stream channels for the game.

For example GTA V could point you to these links.

    https://www.twitch.tv/directory/game/Grand%20Theft%20Auto%20V

    https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOquqcRMJmURiGfEnaitptg

    https://www.facebook.com/gaming/game/grandtheftautov

Not sure if there are other similar sites... But also if you add this please open it up to the API as well!

    Thanks!

  7. Noting the [CN] China region as well as [KR] Korea, but it is worth adding that releasing in mainland China is and has been EXCEPTIONALLY difficult for western publishers, which is why most devs have historically opted to release in [HK] Honk Kong or [TW] Taiwan and let those sales be an "in" to the region.

This is interesting, so even though TW or HK release are a way to enter the Mainland market, they are actually different? in terms of content and/or release dates?

Sounds like we need to investigate this further.
If you happen to have example of some titles please share them in a comment in here as that would help.

    Thanks!

  8. 3D view of game covers, being able to view the front, sides and back sides.
Could be nice when having many regions and scanned images of all sides of a box art.

Hey! For now we’re focusing on a single cover standard. Which we’ll then expand to other regions to be able to cover more types of users for this standard.

Once we have good coverage of those we may start looking at additional aspects such as sides, back of cover etc..

    Thanks!

  9. Ability to add game-specific controllers/accessories to their page. For example the guitar in guitar hero games, the camera with Eyetoy games, the dance mat for DDR games and so on. Along with the option to set whether the item is mandatory or not.

  10. Company logos change with time and many of them do drastic changes. Suggestion to be able to upload more than 1 logo as well as date input accompanying logos.
Also have a nice logo picture timeline where each logo has a 'from' and 'to' date associated.

  13. Some of the games don't get results through the API because the names used by ROM (and other game images) documenting organizations have some rules that don't apply to IGDB's main title rule.

    Some of them:

If the title starts with an article, it goes to the end of the title. (Legend of Zelda, The)
If there is a non-standard character, like slashes, quotes, etc, they are removed.
The Japanese naming scheme uses double vowels instead of singles ones.

It would be good to have as an alternative title option something like: "Alternative title - No-Intro Naming Convention".

    I'm pretty…

  14. It would be nice to add 'hardware bundles' of games to the database. With NES & SNES Classic Mini, Mega Drive Mini, Neo Geo Classic, Playstation Classic Mini, Capcom home arcade, 1Up Arcades and several other mini consoles on the market, it would be nice to integrate those as 'hardware bundles' - bundles of existing games that are bundled in one hardware release.
it could be realised with a dedicated category like Main Game, DLC, Bundle,… or just marked as Bundle. The platform where it is released could be either specific for each release or could be one general "hardware…

    Heya!
We recently discussed adding the ‘retro classic’ mini consoles on IGDB, likely as a Version to the main consoles.

While that would help having the data for the hardware itself, currently we wouldn’t be able to have a listing of game for a particular console version. Which can prove tricky for some specific edge cases, Starfox 2 comes to mind being exclusive to SNES Mini for example.

I can confirm adding to those consoles is on our backlog as an initial step, platform Bundles though would probably be a separate task.

    Thanks!

  15. Multiple selectable choices which defines what kind of distribution the game have:

    – Physical media: big box, jewel case only, DVD, paper sleeve etc.
    – Digital

  18. Game revisions (like Alpha, Beta,1.0,1.1,1.2,2.0, etc) would be good for reviews, because the game can change since someone reviewed the game. Even old games have revision (Rev 1, Rev 2, like in the No-Intro notation). It is not a particularly needed data point, but some games change a lot with time.
