Mask Requirement for TwitchCon
After the surge of COVID cases after TwitchCon EU it was incredibly surprising to see the lack of mask policy for the event and makes many of us incredibly concerned about TwitchCon NA. Many other cons that have gone without a mask policy have only exacerbated the COVID cases where cons like PAX East, West etc have had much lower cases by having a strict mask policy.
We hear you and take these concerns seriously. In response to all of your feedback, we are updating our TwitchCon policies to require masks, as well as either proof of vaccination or a negative covid test. We will continue to review our health and safety guidelines along with local authorities in order to keep our community safe IRL at TwitchCon San Diego. Thank you for making your voice heard. More info is available here.

Honestly a ****** move on their part to have no restrictions since the convention centre they plan to hold it in has a maximum capacity of 125 thousand people. That is 125 thousand possible extra cases of covid that could come out of this if they don't make changes.

Considering how many people got covid both at twitchcon amsterdam and vidcon, it's irresponsible to not have any kind of precaution in place. At the very LEAST we should have a mask mandate if there's not gonna be any proof of negative tests or vaccination. With nothing in place it basically guarantees that people Are going to get covid and possibly create a new pandemic. Please do your part in keeping attendees safe, this is not responsible.

There should be a mask mandate AT MINIMUM. I also think there should be some sort of proof of vaccination or negative test but AT LEAST a mask mandate. San Diego ComicCon had mandates so why not TwitchCon?

Enforcing some kind of policy - a mask mandate at bare minimum, preferably vaccination/negative test results - helps ensure the event is safe and fun for everyone involved. Having no safety policies in regards to COVID whatsoever is super irresponsible and will only guarantee many more people come out of the event sick. Please do your part in keeping attendees safe

Absolutely insane current covid requirements, really disappointed in your commitment to protecting the people who make your business breathe.

Not requiring proof of vaccination is one misstep, but opting out of enforcing a mask policy entirely is incredibly irresponsible and shows just how much Twitch devalues not only it's creators on the platform but it's users as well. Ignoring the obvious consequences from other big conventions that went without proper mask or vaxx policies and saw a huge surge in COVID cases choosing to ignore that for the sake of money is awful and I hope Twitchcon makes the decision of updating their policy to protect the people who thrive in their platform or face the consequences of losing a big portion of it's userbase at the convention. Do better

a mask mandate is the least they can do

Pathetic policy move from Twitch. Two other major cons in the last few months changed course, but Twitch somehow thinks they can get away with no mask requirements?

A mask mandate is the bare minimum. Anything less is reckless and puts our community and convention workers at risk. I will not be attending TwitchCon without a mask mandate.

I am already planning on not going to TC this year because of concerns, but I would feel so much more at ease if I knew my friends and colleagues wouldn’t have to worry about there not being requirements.

Anime North just recently concluded a little over a week ago and has had very few cases of COVID reported after the event. Can you guess what the event also happened to require for attendance?
• Proof of vaccination (or medical exemption)
• Approved masks were required to be worn in all indoor convention spaces and designated outdoor areas
• Harassment of staff or attendees over these policies was strictly prohibited and resulted in removal from the conventionI'd love to be able to report a similar result of non-spreading after TwitchCon in San Diego this year. These are easy-to-make changes and feel like they should be common sense. The only reason to *not* have mask requirements is if you wish to cater to a specific demographic that you really do not want to have around in the first place.
Please, use common sense. Let's make this happen and keep everyone safe so we can report a successful TwitchCon 2022 with minimal COVID-19 spread. There's absolutely no reason not to (unless of course you think immunocompromised people's lives such as mine are expendable and "worth the sacrifice", in which case please let me know so I can make sure that the general public is made aware).

There was a massive number of infected people in Amsterdam. Of you went there there is a massive change you got it. I propose A similar policy to San Diego Comic con. We must keep the community safe. There WILL be immunocompromised people attending. Lets care for the health of the community not just their money please. This is what SDCC policy looked like: In an effort to create a gathering that accommodates our stakeholders safely, in addition to following current healthcare and governmental guidelines, everyone attending Comic-Con will be required to wear an approved face covering regardless of vaccination status. Face coverings should completely cover the nose and mouth, fit snugly against the sides of the face, and not have any gaps. For more information and requirements on acceptable face coverings, please click here.
In addition to wearing an approved face covering, you will be required to provide verification of full COVID-19 vaccination status or proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours. SDCC reserves the right to modify requirements or limits for attending or participating in activities.

After seeing that a massive portion of people got infected with Covid in EU, I think TCSD should have a mask policy AND a vaccination card to enter. Something along those lines to make it safe! The comic con did it so why can’t Twitch Con SAN DIEGO?
-
hammydotpy commented
Will a mask and vaccine mandate drop the expected number of cases coming from TCSD to zero? No. But it will without question or doubt significantly reduce the percentage of attendees who will get it compared to Amsterdam. Just because the local area does not have any sort of mask mandates for a gathering of such a size or caliber anymore, does not mean that the con does not have to have one of its own. It worked for PAX East. I will not be purchasing any travel or attendance if TCSD does not announce a full mask and vaccine mandate for convention spaces.

I can support this idea. I don’t want to have to quarantine after the con due to poor health mandates. I would rather Twitch mandate masks to hopefully prevent the spread during a convention when many people from all over the world gather. My country if you test positive when you land you get locked in a hotel for a week or so and that comes out of your own pocket. So I definitely will be masked at the event.

Hi! ER doctor here.
I wish I could vote for this twice. Honestly it genuinely shocked me that there wasn't already a mask mandate in place for Twitchcon. Every year the con gets more and more crowded, and I've already seen multiple infection clusters among streamers I follow who went.
I'm not against large gatherings, as we need to find some acceptable level of risk since this virus is never going away and isn't yet endemic yet. But we need to be reducing the risk as much as possible.
Even more important than implementing the mask and vaccine mandate is ENFORCING these mandates. Just look at the embarrassingly shoddy implementation at Anime Expo this year as an example of what not to do.

You know SDCC will have cases. If this happens (and I know it will) I hope Twitchcon considers masks being required.

I've been to TwitchCon EU and I currently have Covid.
A mask requirement while in the expo (and in the queues) would've done a lot I bet :) -

Please keep the health and safety of your content creators and guests in mind. Many of us want to attend this convention for work and networking purposes, but many twitch streamers are immunocompromised and would be unable to attend without a general mask mandate. Self regulation won't be enough.
