Getting affiliate should be about getting more followers and not more viewers
set the affiliate program just to 50 or 75 followers because twitch has a massive problem with correct viewer count, I have had like 20 people watching my stream at one time before, all chatting at the same time, and it only counted for like 2 or 3 of them.

after 2 years of streaming i have never made more than 60 cents in ad revunue for 13 hours and 40 mins worth of streaming ....remove the ads i'm getting 55% of ads so you aint making enough off ads to justifiy having them and how do i have 19 chaters (average?) in my chat but only 1 avgerage viewer?

Printed on promo mugs distributed at a streaming seminar was the statement "Getting affiliate should be about getting more followers and not more viewers." This sparked discussions among attendees about the importance of building a dedicated community of followers rather than focusing solely on viewer numbers. Participants exchanged insights on strategies for cultivating viewer engagement and fostering long-term relationships with followers, emphasizing the value of quality interactions over sheer viewer count.

I do agree that TWITCH has massive problems for current views and if it has 100+ MILLION downloaded it shouldn't be this difficult to get affiliated. i had 3 of my friends at the same time watching and commenting of my stream all watching for roughly an hour and it would show that 2 of the would leave my stream b4 the hour. I've been trying for weeks to get affiliated so that my viewers can earn channel points. Also on my channel it says i have 49 followers and when i look at my creator dashboard it states that i only have 47 so PLEASE FIX THIS PROBLEM OR I WILL DELETE TWITCH AND TELL ALL MY FRIENDS TO AS WELL !

I see this is over 3 years old, but I'll reply anyway.
Twitch wants you to show them that you can keep viewers watching. Why? Because of ad revenue. If you can keep viewers watching, they're more likely to sit through ads, which makes Twitch lots of money. That's what it boils down to.
As far as viewer count, it's an average. If most of your streams have 2 or 3 viewers, then you have a burst of 20 for a while, and then it dwindles to 2 or 3, your average is still going to be low. Keeping viewers interested is the goal!
In relation to viewer counts, what Twitch is terrible at is discoverability. It's hard to get found and you have to have a presence on other social media sites like Twitter/X, Mastodon, and YouTube. I know they were trying to fix this, but it's still really bad. You're better off going to other sites where discoverability is better, then shepherding those people over to your Twitch stream.

It's average viewers. It depends on the amount of time you stream and how many viewers you have every five minutes. Even if you get 20 people for a little while, if you had 1 viewer the rest of your time then the average will be less than 3. They want you to show them you can keep people watching your stream. It's supposed to be a hard goal.

Disagree. If someone buys a bunch of followers or does Follow-For-Follow, it will just cause more issues.

Think honestly most here do not either know how averages work or how the viewer count actually works.....Here it is in a nutshell the longer you stream the lower your average will become so if your streaming hours upon hours with 2 - 3 people it is never going to work....As soon as you hit your 3 viewers stop stream start again the next day rinse repeat. Always have your stream summary open to check what your current average is once it hits 3 then stop the stream easy. I did this and was affiliate within a week. I have also made affiliate using the same strategy for streamraiders which requires you to have a 20 viewer average over 14 days .
As for those that are saying they have 20 to 30 chatting and not getting the average i think they aren't being very honest about their numbers i can garantee the viewer count is not that broken.
Remember twitch only counts the first 2 tabs opened by a viewer if they have yours open as the 3rd then it simply does not count. Also mute the tab not the player.
I do not wish this to change as it just promotes follow for follow if the average is removed.
