Viewer Count should be the same number of people in chat, because thats what it should be, even if someone isn't chatting, they should be included, unless of course they are a bot account then they can be excluded if they're verified through Twitch ie; Streamlabs, StreamElements, Nightbot, etc...

I also had an issue with viewer count the other day,so I decided to stream the next day. By then the problem was fixed. I could have been stubborn and continued to stream/make myself upset as I watch my average drop but I let it go because at that point if I continue to stream knowing something is wrong, it literally becomes my fault.

I'm not an affiliate, but this idea that "If I can't get it, it's twitches fault" is a very lazy take. I have a 2.7 viewer average and it's literally the only thing keeping me from applying to be an affiliate. I could get upset and come complain but all it does is make me want to improve. If I don't get affiliate it's nobody's fault but my own.

Exactly! I just streamed for six and a half hrs yesterday with three or more viewers the whole time, and my view count to make it to affiliate went down. smdh, This requirement and whoever controlling is clearly biased to certain streamers.

Needing a viewer count average prevents me from streaming. I get more viewers when I stream on the weekend or at night compared to streaming in the morning. I only get 1 or 2 viewers in the morning; which drops my average. This makes me not want to stream in the morning at all.

The viewer count it's not consistant, so I agree to that, often have people chatting during my streams and the counter shows way less than the people that actually is, one of the biggest mistakes on this platform. The unconsistency on the view counts it's because of the platform.

Here's the thing. To all the people saying that it should stay as average viewers, I would be somewhat fine with that if the viewer count was even close to accurate but it's not. If they fixed that, a lot more channels would make affiliate and deserve it. This is what the OP was talking about.

On the other hand, even with that part fixed, there is also a straight math problem with using an average. To actually reach this goal if things were tracking correctly, the math points to you being better off streaming less and only during peak hours at least until you reach affiliate (unless you want to get to partner). I stream all my games because I want to stream gaming content but most of the time, I stream to 1 or 2 viewers because I play late at night on the west coast. Late night streamers on the east coast have an advantage because part of their late night time is still prime time for many parts (if in NA). This seems unfair and counter productive. Why not add in or factor in all the views your videos get overall when you are not streaming. A lot of my audience seems to watch my videos at different hours than when I actually stream. I have a day job and kids so my streaming times are limited but I am up late so I still have no problem making a good amount of gaming content that quite a few people are watching (I've already made it to 500 hours and last month I had 400 Views mostly from NA).

One other point is that most of the channel building systems are gated behind the Affiliate wall. Why can't non-affiliate channels use loyalty points and have a few icons to entice viewers to follow them and help them get to affiliate?

This could work however, it would make it a lot easier to buy affiliate then. All you would need is some fake followers. The active viewer count just proves that a) you didn't buy them. And b) you haven't been streaming for two years and just so happen to get 50 followers over time but not actually earn it.

The Viewer Count is active if they turn your volume down and minimize the window it doesn't count the viewer. So Just have it open

ive been trying to get affiliate and i have everything, but its saying I only have 34 followers when i have 54 and ive logged out re freshed and its still not updating . idk what to do

I personally think you should get affiliate if you have 50 viewers that come to every stream so it shows your building a community not just about followers and viewers

I think viewers would be a fine requirement if the viewer count was actually accurate.

My Channel has just reached the affiliate requirements, but it still says I have 38 followers, instead of my real count, 52.

@ seanthepro Who decides good content? Hope it's not you, as I see plenty of "mostly" nude women, aholes playing **** games, stupid talk/aka podcasts, all as Affiliates. I think their content sucks, so why are they Affiliates??

It needs to be easier, and FYI, Twitch, your algorithm sucks balls. When a person gets a report emailed from you showing 22 new chatters, viewers, yet when we come to the "stats" page and it shows only 1 active viewer.....your sh*t blows!

I think I should stay the same because it is easy to get followers but not easy to keep viewers. So if you learn how to keep the viewers you then know how to grow your brand and channel.

I agree, because I’ve had family watch and that was a three of use, and it would most of the time say one person, or I have someone lurking and I was chatting with someone and a few other people telling me they were watching, but it would say only one person.

I disagree. As someone who just started streaming regularly and have not even reached affiliate but already have 100 followers from having my twitch account for a few years, being able to reach affiliate just by having followers would not challenge myself or other streamers to put out good content, interact with others, or keep people entertained so they don't leave. That's nearly the point of the website is to entertain people live. Why should I be given affiliate if I can't average 3 people watching? I understand maybe there are issues where one is not receiving affiliate when they think or know they have reached the requirements. This is a separate issue and should be dealt with, but changing how affiliate works as a whole and making it follower-based should not be the solution.
