Do not deprecate hosts.
There was a notice put out about hosts becoming deprecated next month.
This is an awful idea. Do not do this.
The reason given for doing it is clear and obvious deflection; it's false. No one with average viewership under like 6000 uses twitch chats as a community server; when someone is offline, that's it. Their attention is off the chat and elsewhere. The idea that hosts prevent interactions with streamers is complete bull.
Moreover, raids are not a direct replacement for hosts (most people don't even -know- this because this fact has been so thoroughly obfuscated,) because of the referral ID causing a viewer to not count to the raided channel for ad or partnership metrics. Hosting was an incredibly useful -community building tool- on twitch; you host into another channel, that user notes you down, they host into you and share their audience in a way that actually contributes useful numbers beyond "was a viewer". Raiding does not do this. Raiding is an anti-growth tool. Viewers might follow and check someone out again following a raid, but many are there primarily just because a streamer raided them over and have no interest in staying; hosts, because they required active interaction with the hosted channel were more likely to stay because it tested viewer interest.
Hosting was and still is an invaluable community tool. To remove it and not provide its actual functionality to raids is extremely anti-user.
Hello everyone! Thank you for coming together to bring us your feedback on Hosts. We made the decision to remove this feature because it consistently confuses viewers–particularly new viewers or those who are less familiar with Twitch–because they don’t realize the channel they visited is hosting another stream and also they cannot interact with the hosted streamer in chat.
We also hear your feedback and acknowledge the need for community building tools that help promote other streamers. We’ve recently introduced the following features that help you do that:
- We recently released a feature called shoutout that lets you promote another streamer’s channel in your chat and makes it easy for your viewers to follow that channel without leaving your stream. To initiate the shoutout during your stream, use the chat command “/shoutout [channel]” - viewers who do not follow the channel will see a pop-up with a follow button for that channel. If the streamer has an upcoming stream in their schedule, the shoutout will also highlight their next scheduled stream with a button to set a reminder to watch.
- Recommend another stream to viewers when you are offline by adding them to your Suggested Channels list in your channel settings (formerly known as your “Autohost list”). When their channel is live, their stream will appear in the carousel at the top of the page. You can also display your suggested streamers list in your streamer shelf.
We appreciate the feedback you’ve shared, and look forward to new suggestions that help your communities connect with one another.

Please Keep hosting a feature while adding the other improvements listed in the update. They are not mutually exclusive and hosting is useful for users to help in streamer discovery.

It seems like it costs no resources to keep hosting as a feature. My chat room will be up regardless of whether I'm offline 2 seconds ago or 1 month ago. This main post highlights the important chat traffic clicking through to the host-ee if users who want to move from the host-er's chat. I can see whoever makes decisions at Twitch thinking that the chat spam and general tech of raids being more impressive for the brand or money-making aspect of Twitch? But completely removing hosting seems like a high-effort fix to a problem that doesn't exist.

Please do not deprecate hosts, many marginalized streamers have negative associations with raids, and as is pointed out in the post, hosting is an incredibly valuable community building tool - i have found so many cool people to follow and watch from hosts made by people i trust. please do not take that away.

It makes no sense to remove hosting capabilities. It's a great way to support your friends who are growing alongside you! If anything, auto-hosting should be fixed in order to ensure max exposure, especially when we're offline and unable to do the command ourselves.

The removal of both Friends Lists and Hosts reflect short term thinking in the c-suite. The idea is to force users to the algorithm and to destroy means of organic discovery. While this might boost short term ad revenue, it will weaken and deplete the Twitch streaming community.

I hate the fact that in order to "Support Your Friends" you are FORCED to use the /raid function. I do not want to be FORCED to use this function, because I do not want to treat my viewers and friends as CATTLE. I do not consider them as an 'asset' or a number. It's distasteful. And removing the /host function, something they either are not able to repair, or refuse to repair, provides a disservice to your starting streamers (Not "small" cause it takes a LOT to just get started, and that's HUGE)

As a viewer, I like the host function - especially as a way to recommend other channels while offline - as much as the ability to raid someone.

It's a feature that lets us support our streamers in a free way other than lurking. Please don't take away that feature.

I have discovered so many new creators through people I follow hosting other channels.
Do you really want people to have to go to another media platform to find which stream their friends are in?
It also helps viewers feel helpful. As a streamer I never want to make my viewers feel obligated to support me via bits subs or tips but hosting is free support that encourages community -

Hosting has kept me watching Twitch longer, finding new streamers to watch consistently and ultimately made my experience of the site much more rich than without it. I watch streams I would otherwise never click on when someone hosts another user and I nearly always enjoy the content.

As much as I understand the business reasons for this change, it directly and further negatively effects the usability of your platform. Removing relatively bug-free features which provide subscribers/followers and streamers alike to provide information and interaction with each other is simply driving paying customers to other platforms.
Reconsider.

I think the removal of hosting other streams is going to cause more harm than good. I don't understand this logic and it frustrates me why they would do this. I can understand removing friends lists as this isn't messenger but removing the hosting feature just feels absolutely unnecessary and smaller content streamers could use the extra help. The few options they left aren't the easiest for others to remember :/

Do not remove this option. It gives viewers a feeling of being helpful to their community because they can't afford to sub or give bits but they can share! Showing FREE support is priceless and as a viewer and moderator I love to see how happy people get when hosting

The explanation Twitch has given on removing hosting is irrelevant and it's not how streamers or viewers interact with the host feature. Hosting is a powerful tool for small creators and taking that tool away is more transparent than the platform thinks it is.

Please keep hosting! As a member of the Twitch music collective, my community have hosted the graduation raid trains in additions to myself. My mods and community members LOVE using the hosting option to support their favorite streamers, and new streamers in addition to subs, bits, and the like. It helps us connect and strengthen the Twitch community. Our numbers as streamers may or may not be small in quantity, but the quality of loyalty and power they have is incredible. Please don't take this support option away from them. or better yet, consider a suggestion popup to those joining stream to host in addition to subbing. Thank you so much for your kind consideration to repeal!
