[Beta] Moments
Moments is a new way to celebrate channel lore and reward viewers for being part of the hype, live. With the click of a button, you can now turn major moments on stream into a commemorative chat badge that viewers will receive if they were watching live. The more moments a viewer takes part in, the higher badge tiers they unlock. Plus, newcomers can get to know your stream by clicking into these badges and viewing the defining moments of your community.
We look forward to hearing your feedback and if you have any questions please refer to our help article (https://help.twitch.tv/s/article/moments) Please note that this is a beta and is only available to a select amount of creators currently.
Hello all,
We're shutting down Moments on October 5, 2023, as a result of limited use from the Twitch community. This will allow us to focus on bringing improvements to Chat, Clips, Discovery and Stream Together to help more streamers succeed on Twitch.
Although you'll be able to keep the badges received during the Beta (plus the Clips created in association with Moments), the Clips will no longer be specifically tied to the Moments badge they were associated with. The ability to create new Moments in the Creator Dashboard and the “Community Moments” shelf on the channel page will be removed.
Thank you all for participating and the feedback.

I supposedly got a moment from channel MiaMetzMusic, which I discovered when a notification popped up saying "Nice! You earned a moment from MiaMetzMusic. Check it out." Whenever I click on the button to remove the notification and the associated red circle on the top-right, it instantly re-appears. The notification, despite being dismissed reappears on a page refresh. Whenever I click on the notification to claim the moment (something which I ultimately don't want to do, but what other choice do I have), it takes me to the channel page and nothing else happens. I imagine this is because the channel is set to sub-only mode for previous broadcasts. ' Though I reject the notion that I'd need to subscribe to someone I wouldn't usually do that for, just so that I can remove a moment of theirs.
So now, I have this non-dismissible notification for a moment I can neither claim nor reject, so the tab name is always indicating that there is a notification "(1) Twitch" on every tab I open of the website and the red circle comes back no matter what I do. To reiterate - I can't claim it, I can't reject it, I can't dismiss the notification of it.
The only worthwhile diagnostic information I could find is that the console fails an integrity check on reading the notification, spitting out the following error: [GraphQL] One or more GraphQL errors were detected on request 01GE6YSZ0JZPV5CFJZJX76WJ85. OnsiteNotifications_ReadNotifications: failed integrity checkEdit: On a whim, I tried opening it though the phone application and it still did nothing when clicked on, but I did manage to hide the notification itself. I imagine whatever the web client is doing is just utterly broken.

Ok, just now I encountered a different problem that lost me another moment.
I was clicking the Claim moment button and NOTHING was happening.
I opened up the Javascript console and took a screenshot:
https://i.imgur.com/CCkNbTa.png
It was saying "failed integrity check"I had the player open on two instances:
on the computer on the desk, and on mobile since I was in bed, if that would've caused any issues.I got up from bed to click the Claim moment button on the computer, and it didn't work.
Checking the actual moment clip:

I'm even in the chat on the side (and on screen) -

Hey there, didn't hope that this would happen, but I wasn't able to claim a moment while being active in chat. The notification just didn't appear for me in chat. I would be grateful if I could still get the badge. :)

This particular feature called "Moments" that was added, is a cool and interesting feature for a streamer's channel, from my perspective.
The feature seems to be ment to be designed for the streamer, in a form of it being beneficial and a cool feature for their community.
However, I am saying that this is not yet designed for the streamer. It's Twitch that designed this concept for the streamer's channel.
The streamer has barely any control of it. All the streamer has is that feature, nothing else. The owner of the channel is unable to define how many moments someone needs to have to obtain a certain badge.
The system limits the amount of "Moments" that Mods and higher can create, to be 5 Moment Clips per Month.
This is an issue. Think of it as when does a user create a clip? What if they clip because they threat it as a "Moment" ?
With that being said, with how the feature is currently implemented, it is Twitch deciding how many "Moments" there can be in a channel per month, and not the owner of the channel itself. Because it is being limited by 5 per month.
Those badges aren't global and only show up in each channel for itself individually. So why are there limits on how many Moments can be created?
You can create 5 Moments, but what if there were more Moments? You can't predict the future if something cool is going to happen, but you ran out of Moments and now the user can't capture it anymore for the Badge collection.
So I think something should be changed.

Like the idea behind the system but think having moments and highlights separated from each other makes no sense. I think they should be merged into one system.
Not a fan of the claim button maybe do something like if they typed within the past 30 seconds / next 30 seconds they get access to the badge, not sure if this is possible but seems more feasible from a viewer pov.
I also think that channel editors should have the ability to delete moments, other than fun idea for chat interaction. -

There's bugs, so if one mod creates a /moment the other one can't create one, and there's no timer indicating that there's a cooldown.
So please add a visible cooldown timer.
Then the moments created don't update when you do /moment again, I think it updates after a certain amount or time. But it definitely updates if you refresh the page. But I don't think it should be like that.

Give more moments per month, don't limit it because it's like clips and we used all 5 in a channel already just for testing only, and one of them didn't even send out.
Don't limit it at all, all other mods just can waste all /moment and be silly.

I created moments with /moment on a channel I mod for, and one of the moment that I created or someone created seemed to have been claimed by nobody.
Generally, I don't like this claim only button idea to claim a moment, since it is not beneficial to people that put the stream in the background as a tab, but are still there.

I wasn't able to claim a moment despite being active in chat during said moment. Not sure why I didn't receive the notification since I have claimed previous badges on the same device.

I love the idea of this feature and the badge. I'm a part of the Beta (https://twitch.tv/breakingpointes) and enjoy moments BUT there are two (and a half) issues I've run into:
1. The only time I've been able to edit a moment is when the broadcaster creates the moment. I believe that if an editor creates the moment, only they can edit it but have been unable to confirm (and other messages below suggest otherwise). This is not clear in the info about moments. It would greatly enhance the experience if both the editor who created the moment and the broadcaster are able to edit a moment created by an editor.
1b. If an editor can't actually edit a moment in the UI for moments, could they be able to edit it a la a clip as it's created (the drag to shorten feature broadcasters can do in the dashboard)? For broadcasters this mechanism doesn't make sense (we're streaming at this time) but that could resolve issues that editing a moment causes.
2. If an editor creates a moment, the broadcaster is not notified that this moment happened. This can lead to confusion or the possibility of double creating moments. A pop up on the broadcaster's chat that shows "a moment was just created in your channel" would be much appreciated. -

I was watching https://www.twitch.tv/xqc play Minecraft with Jesse. The notification
to claim the moment never appeared despite me actively chatting.Edit: There was a hype train happening during this time, not sure if that blocks the notification.

I was watching https://www.twitch.tv/xqc play Minecraft, when he beat the ender dragon a few minutes ago he asked his mods to do a moment but when I pressed claim it said "failed to claim" and didn't give me the option again.

I've had an issue with moments on my channel. A mod created a moment for me but I couldn't edit it, and he couldn't seem to either. So the clip hasn't ended up encapsulating what I wanted to show.

I was watching twitch.tv/sugarfalcon just now, was watching for over an hour already. And he did a moment, and nothing appeared in my chat, no option to claim at all.
I thought it was like channel points where you don't get moments if you had more than 2 Twitch tabs playing, so I actually made sure he was the only tab playing.
I clicked everyone else's username after everyone was saying "moment" in chat, they got this moment:
https://clips.twitch.tv/SpikyDignifiedGorillaThunBeast-QkHPQbJMqKI-nODl
I didn't even get the option to claim it.This isn't the first time either.
I also didn't get the option to claim a moment in twitch.tv/thabeast721 about 2 weeks ago.
I was watching when this moment happened:
https://clips.twitch.tv/SpinelessFuriousYakinikuBatChest-WXkKMtc78BLc6F5M
And I didn't get the option to claim. In both clips you can see my messages IN THE CHAT.
And it's happened several other times.
It's really disheartening when I actually take the time to stay on Twitch to claim these moments and I don't even get the option for it. -

Having Moments liked to standard clips is a really silly idea. Not only does it lock the owner of that clip to the Mod who makes it if the streamer doesn't, but also if that clip for whatever reason gets deleted, then that moment becomes nothing more than a broken link to a forgotten memory.
You need to allow the clips to be owned by the channel owner. As clips can be removed, you also need to allow naming and even a description of the moments so that people know what on earth it was for if the clip happens to be removed or deleted in the future for things like DMCA or other reasons.
I was part of a moment in Meikii's stream but didn't realise. When I went back today I saw the badge, clicked on it but the clip had been deleted so it's just a broken link and no idea what the moment was.

I've been watching Philza for quite sometime and have missed some very big moments as the notification to claim never appears. I've looked it up and from what I can tell a notification box is supposed to pop up like when there is a poll.

Was watching Elegy when the streamer created a moment. Even though I can be seen actively chatting the moment never popped up leading to me missing the chance to gain it entirely

I was added to the Moments beta at the end of July, and the only streaming opportunity I had to use them was July 31st. I started streaming in the evening (East Coast USA), and used up my moments before midnight - but I ended stream after midnight (August 1st).
I was never replenished with moments for the month of August. It seems that the "cost" of moments was not tied to when they were actually used, nor when your stream started, but when your stream ended.
That's the only explanation for me to not have been re-upped with moments for August. It's disappointing, and I hope this is a cautionary tale for others.
