Just got the e-mail saying i was part of this test and I can already tell you it's a bad idea. A 50/50 split on a one-time event? Why would anyone prefer this to a gift sub that grants your emotes to someone for an entire month? If you're going to take half either way, why would any reasonable person choose the less impactful reward?
It's an interesting idea, but making it cost bits instead of taking 50% of the cost would be a better use of the feature.
You take enough money from us Twitch. Don’t need you taking even more!
Get your fucking hands out of my pocket. Please.
Not sure you expect me to continue to push your platform when you wanna take even more from us :/
Once again, I understand that Twitch is first and foremost a business. However, it needs to be symbiotic. We have to have funds to invest into our streams so we can continue to represent Twitch in a positive light. Taking 50% of the tips, without warning the person, for a one-time reward is not something I as a viewer would want to do. I prefer it even less as a streamer. Please take this back to the drawing board and see if you can ask streamers of various concurrent viewer counts for some feedback to help you succeed in a new implementation on the first attempt. As it stands, it is not a feature I have interest in.
Absolutely terrible for creators. The cut that Twitch takes is absolutely ridiculous compared to the basically nonexistent advantage this provides over direct tips/donations or even bits. You cannot take this much of a cut without providing better incentive to use the feature, or no one will use it. This feature will flop catastrophically in its current state.
Horrible feature, promote bits more rather than try to take more money from streamers from tips
This is actually a garbage feature. You guys already take half of our Subscription revenue along with Ads, and Bits and now you want half of our tip revenue too? Before you guys end up sucking us dry of all of the money we are working our ***** off to get how about better discoverability features and cracking down on all of the toxicity and toxic streamers that you guys have been letting back in. Homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist Creator and Usernames have been going unchecked and is still a way bigger problem then this useless feature. It's not gonna stop me from using Streamlabs anyway and just having a panel for it.
I am absolutely against this feature. As said by another commenter, all I am seeing is an increase in the cut that Twitch wants from revenue streams, with no discernable increase in the quality of streaming-life for its content creators.
I get you guys are a business, but you keep wanting more of the streamers revenues without giving us useful benefits like... discoverability is still a mess. Homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist Creator and Usernames go uncheck. Instead of helping creators curb harassment you added a feature that is used as another vector for harassment by allowing banned viewers access to creators. You’ve done nothing to curb hate raids and you hobbled smaller communities to support each other with raids. And you have given streamers no controls for the DCMA mess. Streamers have to work very hard for every bit, tip and sub. Could twitch start working hard for that split? Could ya’ll put out something that is creator friendly? Like the last 6 month has been you taking taking taking and not doing much for the people who make your platform.
So would this apply to charity streams as well since they are donated via 'tips'. In my mind twitch has no right to profit from a charitable donation
As said below, this really isn't a well thought out idea. Streamers don't make all their money from Subs or Ads they make a good portion from tips and taking 50% of that can put people who are just barely getting by to no longer making enough to support themselves forcing them to either reshuffle their entire finances or to give up on streaming completely.
So Please Twitch don't do this it really is going to backlash so much and hurt so many.
Get the other issues figured out before you try to take even more of the money that WE work for.
50/50 sub revenue split and now you want half my donations? lol, no thanks. I'll keep using streamlabs
While I'm not a part of the test group, I concur with a lot of what I've seen in other comments. None of my viewers would use this feature, they want to support the community not the company.
Twitch takes enough money from streamers on Subs/Gifts and Bits. There is no need to take any more money, unless you want your streamers to go out of business because they can no longer afford things like taxes, electricity, their mortgage, etc. If Twitch takes half of a tip, the streamer will still owe tax on the full amount of the tip. (I am not a streamer nor am I a lawyer, especially a tax lawyer, I just care about the streamers that I watch)
If Twitch continues behaving like Youtube, no one will have any reason to use Twitch over Youtube.
******** Amazon and especially Bezos. We Americans pay your tax bill bc you're a cheap *** rich ****. Please sacrifice yourself to the old gods and jump in a volcano Jeff lol
Are you actually trying to get your streamers to leave...you are doing nothing but taking money directly out of their pocket
Portions are already taken from subs now you want to take potions of donations. Yeah no I'll Stick with streamlabs and encourage viewers not to "celebrate"
