Celebration Feedback
Just got the e-mail saying i was part of this test and I can already tell you it's a bad idea. A 50/50 split on a one-time event? Why would anyone prefer this to a gift sub that grants your emotes to someone for an entire month? If you're going to take half either way, why would any reasonable person choose the less impactful reward?
It's an interesting idea, but making it cost bits instead of taking 50% of the cost would be a better use of the feature.

Flagrant, unapologetic greed. pure and simple. I'll stick to my donation button.

I get Twitch doesn't want to leave money on the table, but bits has been a staple for a while now and it's what followers want. Offering your own brand of celebrations seems like a good idea but flies in the face of everything streamers have done to personalize their channels. To me, this comes as a red flag and I do not and will not support this feature.

Twitch continuously goes for the cheap, low-effort money grab novelty features instead of the stuff people actually ask for. The useful stuff that would legitimately improve discoverability and the experience of search on the platform... but that part is too hard. Look! Flashy things!
This a hard pass guys. It’s silly. No point to it’s existence. You want 50% of tips, and we’re supposed to be excited about that, when we already have a system that costs us 3% and is immediately accessible? A restrictive and super limited system to replace the one we have full control over already? No thanks. I’ll shut this off too. Some flashy bang-bang effects over the stream would be annoying anyways - I’d be losing revenue for something I hated in the first place.
Nobody asked for this. Nobody wants this. Go work on the hard stuff. Make your platform a searchable and discoverable place. Take VOD content seriously and allow creators to generate exposure and core following while offline as well. There’s a reason YouTube works far better for growth in every possible comparable metric.. it’s because Google understands the internet. You’re showing less-than-stellar understanding in that department lately.

What's next? Twitch is going to ask for a share of the various GDQ's fund-raising? How long is it before Twitch says "You can't use 3rd parties for tips/donations because we have it on our own platform now."? Is there anyone at Twitch who actually looks at the vast majority of broadcasters instead of the people who would fall into exclusive contracts? Because this feels INCREDIBLY out of touch.

There are absolutely zero circumstances in which I would ever use this feature as a viewer. Twitch already forces me to view completely irrelevant ads because it believes their site is solely for video games, and I am painfully aware of how much of my money you are already taking away from the streamers I support.
This is a bald-faced cash grab, not a feature that makes Twitch a better platform or community.

When most people have 3rd party access to apps that take maybe around 1-3% of a tip/donation this just feels more like a cash grab attempt than a sincere attempt at a good feature.
50/50 is not at all worth it nor is this feature at all as most will just turn it off and this will end up as a waste of development time that could've gone to further improving bits, channel points/redemptions or even just making the back-end of VODs/Clips to allow for better protections with all of the DMCA issues happening.
Also, to comment on the idea itself without the horrible split and other issues, this ends up being just useless clutter on a video feed that takes away from the actual content being shown.

Its in test so im not gonna be completely biased on this and ill try it out for the time being for science. But 50/50 get out of here you guys monetize off of me as much as it is where can i start to see a real potential in my career?? Absurd man! And right between follow and sub? Please put it far right after subscribe itd make more sense there!

50% split on donations/tips is just robbery when anyone can use a third party such as paypal or SE pay. All you're doing is taking money away from your streamers.

No one wants this fix the issues people have tweeted at you for months about are being ignored for this? Handle things first with streamers still needing to be banned and the fact creators had to delete all their clips containing music in fear of getting in trouble. Listen to the people instead of doing what you think will make them less mad at you.

This is literally an objectively worse version of basic donations that scams streamers out of tens of thousands in total at the very least. Amazon is already one of the richest companies in the world with the richest CEO in the world, they REALLY don't need to be stealing extra money from the masses.

What would this do for the supporter and the streamer that cheering wouldnt?
3rd party tipping is a good thing. If you're going to implement this, keep it at competitive rates so we have incentive to stay on twitch, and give us both options. Emotes are not a good enough reward.
Taxes after the 50% cut from subs and bits already makes things complicated for streamers- not to mention, how would charity streams go?

for celebrations to to be a competition to other services, it needs to be at least a 90/10 split...
giving people 70/30 in general counting subs might be a idea ...

No one in their right mind would pick a one-time celebration (50/50 split) versus a 30 day subscription (same 50/50 split). Use common sense.

No Thank you, scrap this all together
Continue to work on Bits,
Here's an EZ Tip: Instead of having Emotes only available to people of have given a certain amount of bits...
Make those Bit emote slots unlockable FOR EVERYONE that is sub to a channel, exactly like it is for Sub points. First slot takes 10,000 Bits given to the channel from the entire community, then gradually increase how much bits require for each emote slot
Boom I just fixed 2 problems for you. You're Welcome

Are you kidding? 50/50 for something I can do someplace else to same quality level or better. More Twitch does this more they hurt creators and will drive them away from using the site and features.

MisterJimmyJam commented
Make it 75/25 or 80/20. 50/50 is ******** and is why people use other sites like streamelements or streamlab
-
Firecrow commented
This is a SERIOUS stretch honestly. I can do exactly what you are doing with celebrations by using my own system and streamlabs alerts. 50% is a massive dip, even Paypal has a 10% cut with a MAX limit on it and that can be bad enough. I could MAYBE see it if the money from this went to licensing from major record labels but I can guarantee most streamers will not enable this feature as it stands now.
How about that idea? You take that 50% cut, get the licensing, that way community members that wanted to support that could.

Doesn't Amazon/Twitch already make enough **** money? Twitch would be nothing without content creators, focus more on them and their wants/needs instead of making disgustingly rich Jeff even richer.

I massively appreciate how Twitch has helped to make streaming a viable fulltime career for me. Having said that, please don't kill off 3rd party tipping with something that takes a substantially larger cut from creators. Cheering has already had a massive impact on how much of a cut streamers make from tips but this is truly another nail in the coffin. I understand Twitch is a business and must perform as such, but this seems unnecessary. If you're going to do this, make it competitive against the third party platforms. Paypal takes 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction in most cases, so you taking 50% is in no way enticing for creators.
