Just got the e-mail saying i was part of this test and I can already tell you it's a bad idea. A 50/50 split on a one-time event? Why would anyone prefer this to a gift sub that grants your emotes to someone for an entire month? If you're going to take half either way, why would any reasonable person choose the less impactful reward?
It's an interesting idea, but making it cost bits instead of taking 50% of the cost would be a better use of the feature.
Being a lil more technical, I already offer on screen animations for bits / tips. Please consider offering a bigger split for the streamers, as I wouldn't use this if there were other higher paying options.
This idea in its current form is drastically flawed, I used it on a friends stream to see what it was and $13 AUD for three emote "fireworks" on screen that Twitch takes 50% of is actually appalling. Especially when there are third part apps that do this through OBS for FREE. It's a blatant cash grab that left a sour taste in my mouth.
I understand that Twitch needs to make money, I'm on that page, this isn't it though, if pushed out this will be a rarely if ever used feature.
There are other ways, like making more emote slots for T2 and T3 with animated emotes in those tiers? Encourage viewers to actually use these tiers instead of just badge flair, give them something worthwhile.
This is not a good feature, please reconsider.
I don't agree with the way Twitch is going about this. Please do not push this out.
Is Twitch trying to encourage creators to start using the competition? This is another bad idea that I hope gets canceled.
Are you trying to draw peoples attention away from your failure to provide a safe legal environment in regards to DMCA for half a decade now with this abomination of a "feature"?
Why don't you sit down with royalty collecting societs finally and strike deals.
It isn't the livelihood of your community that is at stake here, but your own too.
I had a feeling something like this was coming back when bits were first introduced. Twitch just can't see a revenue stream without wanting to take a big juicy slice for themselves.
This is the first time I've given serious thought to moving to another streaming service. If twitch started siphoning off half of my tip income I'd have to bail.
This is one of the worst ideas I have seen coming from Twitch recently.
Like holy mother of God, why would ANYONE in their right mind think it is a good idea to donate for a 50/50 split with a big company? The main reason a lot of people don't use bits is the INSANE cut Twitch is already taking compared to other 3rd party options. Now they are thinking a 50/50 cut is a good idea? Really?!
Please, Twitch, just take this away. I get it you want a cut from profits and so far subs and bits have been very secure for a streamer, but please don't do this ridiculous split and force it on us. As it would be a replacement for 3rd party websites, just check what the splits are there and make it around that amount instead. That way we as streamer get a more secure income and you guys can earn a cut that otherwise gets eaten by Paypal. Just don't make it as expensive as bits and not AT ALL as expensive as that ridiculous 50/50 split...
100% against this. Unless twitch wants to starting paying me a salary they can keep their **** hands off my donations. The arrogance of this move is astounding. Tell me Twitch what have you actually done for me lately? Gave me copyright protection? Nope. Been transparent? Nope. Have you increased my revenue? Nope but you tried to make more off me with mid stream ads, increasing the price of bits and made it far less appealing to remain loyal to this platform. It's almost as if twitch doesn't think things through what so ever.
I'm a small streamer but my community is amazingly generous(and I am so grateful for it). Now you want me to use a feature that takes 50% of the money I receive via Paypal/Stripe? What you're proposing is me giving half of the money I get for something that already exists FOR FREE (Streamlabs, Muxy, StreamElements, etc) and that costs me only 2.9%+30 cents OR LESS. There is zero incentive, even if you offered this "feature" for 5%, there would still be zero incentive. Even in the case of chargebacks- I only accept verified PayPal/Stripe payments from verified users logged into their Twitch accounts and I operate under a business account; thus the few times I've ever had an issue I've been supported by PayPal and Stripe because I am providing a product or service (entertainment) and doing so in the proper way. It's not rocket science and all streamers should be conducting themselves in this way if they're receiving any meaningful monetary gain. I sincerely believe that Twitch should find more ways to justify the value of bits- The main selling point of bits is that the streamer is chargeback proof and it's "convenient". In reality the new "celebration" feature brings literally nothing of value to the table.
Just to manifest the impact of the celebration feature in a tangible form- Your viewer sends you $20: Twitch will take $10, assuming your bank takes no fees then you get $10, and then because we're 1099 MISC in the US or a corporation that means that 15% of that goes to Social Security ($1.50) and 15-30% of that goes towards taxes (let's just say $3 for easy math). This means that you the streamer will receive $5.50 for every $20 your community spends.
Streamers: Instead of giving away $10 for every $20 you earn, you could be spending that on building your brand, growing your stream, hiring artists, web designers, developers, buying games, etc. You would be kneecapping your entire brand and wasting your community's resources. Always think of the greater future impact of these "features".
No. Just no. That feature doesn't add anything above what streamelements or streamlabs is giving us, and you take 50% for it ? Are you out of your mind ? I'll never enable nor use that feature. Stop being that greedy, especially when you're not even giving us tools that we need.
Greed. Plain and simple. I'm a moderator, not a caster.. but if I was a partner or affiliate, you bet I would be FURIOUS about this.
Twitch, you take bit money from casters, you already take sub money from them, now you want half of their donations.. sickening.
I think it is time ALL broadcasters on Twitch seek options for support OUTSIDE of Twitch, however they can. Communities are NOT going to stand for this. Get your filthy hands out of OUR cookie jars, you greedy corporate f***ers.
In my own personal opinion, I feel it's time to remove some staff members that are coming up with these "great ideas" and not assisting broadcasters in various ways they could have, and should have. Clearly they do not have the best interests of their broadcasters in mind here. Emmet (CEO) and other staff members should step down and be replaced with qualified people that will run Twitch properly, help all broadcasters, which are the lifeblood of this platform, and not screw over casters by literally reaching into their pockets and stealing their community's support income.
Please stop with all these half-baked ideas. Who's running things up there?
We were promised Squad Streams for all at TwitchCon EU. We were promised Bounty Boards for all. Instead we've gotten ads and now you want to take MORE potential revenue from us.
This is fast becoming a business for big names and screw the little guy. Stop it.
I will be actively telling my community NOT to use this feature. It's ripping both them and the creator off.
I don't understand how ideas like this are even green lighted for production. It's impressive how bad some of the decisions that Twitch have made recently are.
Why are you working on this kinds of things when we're still waiting for the point system to be updated with an API for exemple.. Finish old systems before coming up with stuff like this which N O B O D Y wants
Also 50% cut is unreasonnable no matter what.
As a viewer, I will NEVER utilize this. As a streamer, I will NEVER ask my viewers to utilize this.
This is an awful idea and honestly it follows a chain of other bad ideas. Forcing pre-roll ads, forcing mid-stream ads, now trying to dig into the donations and take HALF? Not to mention this is all coming on the heels of the DMCA stuff, not to mention other situations that make Twitch's "hold us accountable" tweet an absolute joke.
Here is us holding you accountable. There are so many other things of more importance that we are asking you for, and you clearly haven't been listening.
I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed.
Why stop at 50%? Why not just go all they way at this point and take 100%. We all get that you need your cut but when does the Twitch Tax stop? I thought everyone paid that in subs and ads every month.
I'm not against these frivolous additions to a platform that I adore so much. I am however against that platform reaching into the cookie jar every time I turn my back.
like really after all the dmca thing and twitch done nothing to help streamers and every one removed all there history on twitch now you want to take 50% of what the streamer make wow at least get the streamers back first with the dmca then ask that
Yeah, that's a no for me. A 50/50 split with no real incentive to use this feature for the followers or the creators. I'll keep my dono button.
If you want more money coming in actually give people what they want instead of coming up with features we never mentioned. Make bits and subs more attractive as well.
