Just got the e-mail saying i was part of this test and I can already tell you it's a bad idea. A 50/50 split on a one-time event? Why would anyone prefer this to a gift sub that grants your emotes to someone for an entire month? If you're going to take half either way, why would any reasonable person choose the less impactful reward?
It's an interesting idea, but making it cost bits instead of taking 50% of the cost would be a better use of the feature.
Not on my watch will i utilize this unless they change the percentage to something reasonable. 50/50 is inexcusable & provides nothing imo to make me want someone to use it. Change it up twitch to something reasonable like 10% at the MAX. Good idea but bad follow through with this one.
DO NOT WANT
As a viewer, I would find other means to gift to a streamer. It's bad enough that affiliates don't make anywhere near enough to survive.
Terrible idea, you're already in a bad spot with how you've handled ads and DMCA's. You're not supporting your streamers as is so dont make your relationship with your community worse by passing this garbage. OP has a point
Honestly very bad idea ...
Yeah, Twitch would be NOTHING without their content providers. They should be getting more, not less. I will simply find other ways to tip content providers completely outside of the Twitch Ethos.
I agree with the OP. If you're going to do this, using bits or having it react to gifted subs is MUCH preferable to it costing cash.
So you're saying... it's bits again, except an even greedier ratio. Hard pass. If this direction keeps up I will remove my affiliate status and insist on direct donations only for support.
And here it is. Twitch was built on the backs of hard working creators grinding to get where they are and twitch wants to take half of donations for celebrations? It starts a 1 time thing but next it will be 50/50 all donos. Seems like a terrible idea and a great way to lose creators and views alike. Just saying.
I will be disabling this. If the option to disable it is not available, I will be actively dissuading my community from using it.
It feels like every day Twitch comes out with a new feature or rule that hurts creators. A 50/50 cut is insane, and is only going to hurt the streamers who are financially struggling and scare away viewers from donating. The only time I can see myself talking about the celebration feature is begging my viewers not to use it.
This is one of the single dumbest ideas that twitch has come up with. And that's saying a lot since twitch has really not been very good to its users lately, eg ; DMCA. Pull your head out of your *** twitch. your app is falling apart
I would not use this feature. I think rolling it into the bit feature would be much better. Make bits easier to buy/use and add them into a celebration type event would be lovely!
As a viewer, I will not use this feature. I think it is a horrible, horrible idea.
Every time Twitch comes up with an idea and scheme to hurt/help Twitch community it hurts. Being an OG from seeing the evolution of Justin to Twitch is hurts to call this a family anymore. It feels like wicked step mother who doesn't care one bit about you. I don't know who on the board who makes these ideas but they don't care about the core values of Twitch which I thought that was the main reason you would hire the person in the first place.
PLEASE LISTEN TO US!!!
As a community this needs to be trashed or have an opt out option.
The reason why Justin.tv was no more was DMCA and wanted to move away and lessen it with more gaming. You guys at Twitch are not trying to PROTECT US you are throwing us under the bus.
If the feature goes live as is, I will permanently have it turned off.
If you force it on us anyway, I will actively make every effort to discourage everyone from using it on my channel.
Worst idea. You'll turn into the scumbag manager at a restaurant that makes enough money but takes his employees tips and goes on holiday with it. Fix you DMCA claims, enable streamers to make content without fear of bans. Don't take tips and donations away from people or they WILL move platform.
Instead of trying to yoink direct donations, could you perhaps try and deal with the years of content that is being deleted off your platform because of the lack of a proper system to deal with DMCA claims? Thanks.
As a viewer, this similar 'feature' was a huge turn-off for me trying to watch streams on Mixer. It's chintzy and also misleading, learning there's donation theft underneath. I will force myself to get used to watching streamers on other platforms.
Long time viewer rather than streamer but the split put forward on this is offensive.
If you want to bring features with a large revenue share, great. Bring value to people purchasing subs with something commensurate to the revenue share in that space.
If you want to attempt to intercept direct tipping it needs to be no more than a processing fee, or a processing fee and the smallest of cuts *if* Twitch take on the complete risk over charge backs. Even in the former case, the site is getting value from having the data about the interaction.
