Get a warning to follow and unfollow someone.
This would help people like me and others who use a mobile smart phone or tablet with touch screen help people who accidentally unfollow or follow. For example, "I unfollowed someone while watching them when I grabbed my phone, so now whenever I go back to look at my following section, he's not there." So, instead of having it so you automatically follow or unfollow, it will give a warning saying yes to follow or yes to unfollow and no to follow or no to unfollow. In my opinion, I think this is required with most of the things I have used that give warnings.
Thank you for all your feedback! We have launched an update that will now prompt you to confirm you’d like to unfollow the channel. This currently is only available for web, but we hope to add this for mobile/tv apps at a later date.
Edit: minor correction, this is also available on mobile =)

I accidentally unfollowed my favorite streamer, Masayoshi. I left his stream on over night, then woke up and he was hosting someone. While I was still in his offline chat, I go to pick up mouse, being a bit shaky because I hadn't gotten much sleep.
I tried to hit the "Check out <user>" button to watch the hosted person's stream, because I saw a familiar face, and I hadn't followed him yet.
Miraculously, I hit the unfollow button, losing an at least 6 month follow spree.
Is there any explanation as to why Twitch placed the unfollow button right next to something important? Kinda *********.
. . .
Thankfully the boys in offline chat have cheered me up, so lots of thanks to them. :)
However, you should really implement this simple feature. It could certainly save some users' sanity, and they won't get locked out of chatting because they don't meet the followage requirements. Luckily, my case wasn't actually too bad, but, as you've seen in this thread, people have lost many years-long follow streaks, and you (Twitch) have done nothing to help, such as implement a confirmation.
Some people have even reached out to Twitch Support, and, judging by this thread, haven't been helped for over 5 months.
Please implement this feature so that future generations of twitch viewers don't know the pain of losing a long-time follow streak to their favorite strimmer.
Now, I'm be skeptical of the unfollow button on other channels, and likely keep my cursor on a separate monitor, for now at least.
GL everybody who has been harmed so far. <3

Please add a warning button for the unfollow button. I had accidentally unfollowed my favorite twitch stream for 3 months and I just have a recent follow age now. I know its not much but my track with the streamer is now gone forever. Can you please add this new feature and restore my follow age.

I and many other users are quite frustrated with the following streak stopping after accidentally unfollowing. Its quite sad that twitch-support can not help with this problem either.
It would be nice that the following streak always continues from the first time you are following a streamer.I just experienced, that I unfollowed a streamer, who was banned, so it couldn't be me, accidentally, and was sad to find out my following streak ended.
I heard that it's quite normal that a twitch-streamer loses followers while being banned, but it's sad to see, that also active users are getting unfollowed.
I personally think it would be an easy problem to solve (at least it sounds easy :)), while also making users/customers really happy.
Kind regard,

I JUST UNFOLLOWED SOMEONE AGAIN! My keyboard was somehow highlighting the unfollow button, and when I went to type in chat, it unfollowed. STILL NO CONFIRMATION. HOW IS THIS NOT FIXED YET? The funny part is that I wouldn't even mind it not having a confirmation if it didn't completely NUKE your follow status. Right now, it gets completely reset, essentially retconning your time spent with a streamer, and also forcing you to wait the followers-only cooldown AGAIN before you can chat. Who designed this? For real. I want to have a talk with them. Let me speak to your manager. HotPokket

Recently I accidently unfollowed some channels I support even when I'm watching them and some channels I didn't notice were discovered much later. This happened both on browser and mobile app.
The solution would be .. when user wants to unfollow a channel, twitch ask user to confirm that action via pop up menu. -

I followed Cthulhu_the_3rd for 9 or so years and this streak was undone when I was multitasking and clicked back on literally the worst part of the window. It's not the BIGGEST deal but I was a little upset to have my follow age, this small legacy, literally gone forever. I don't know if I can get this restored, but I'd like it if there were measures to prevent this from happening to anyone else who cares.

PLEASE add a confirmation before I'm allowed to unfollow someone, on all platforms. I've accidentally unfollowed people more times than I can stand. This makes me lose my follow time, (which I was very proud of on some channels) and bans me from followers-only chats for a period of time in the worst case scenario. Not everyone has a steady hand, you know. Thoughtlessly assembled user interfaces like this infuriate me. You claim to be so inclusive, yet people with physical disabilities get no accommodations.

A confirm warning or a lock button to prohibit messing with the Follow / Unfollow really would be very nice.
I'm sure lots of people have done that by accident based on how easy it is to just slide your finger quickly (Mouse or Touchscreen) and click on the heart.
(I just have, btw.)

one big suggestion i would like to give is that you need to hide the unfollow button somewhere down or inside a menu or something because i have pressed it accidentally multiple times, sometimes what happens is the unfollow button is somehow selected and when i want to press SPACE to pause the stream it just unfollows the channel ive been following for years

I accidentally unfollowed xqc on may 25th 2020, and I originally was following him since February 2018. This new layout is trash and I'm sure many people agree.
