Please do not remove the ability to cheer anonymously
Today (Oct 24, 2022) Anon cheering seems to have been disabled for some reason. Please do not remove the ability to cheer Anonymously.
Some of us like to donate bits and don't want to be "recognized" for it. Removing the ability to cheer anonymously will just make us not cheer at all.
If this was somehow something streamers were asking for, then make it a per-stream setting a streamer can toggle (but default ON).
Hey all! Thanks for this thread. We recently deprecated anonymous Cheering after we discovered it was being abused. While we understand some viewers prefer not being recognized for Cheering, we made this change to ensure a safer experience for those who were negatively impacted.
We’ve also heard your concerns on what this means for the future of Bits. This deprecation is not related to any plans to limit Cheering with Bits on Twitch, and is solely focused on providing a safer experience for our community.

Please restore anonymous cheering.
Many viewers prefer to cheer anonymously. Anonymous cheerers are in my top 10 for overall support from cheers. I'm not happy about this change.
Streamers can already prevent abuse by:
a) disabling sound and TTS alerts
b) setting a minimum bits amount at the cheermote or message levelAnonymous cheers don't even include messages and it's just the anonymous username that's used (unlike follow-bots which often include offensive usernames with slurs).
Alternatively, Twitch can build a configuration feature into the product, allowing streamers to opt-in to disabling anonymous cheers in their channel. This would be much better than disabling it for everyone.
Please restore anonymous cheering.

Make it a configurable choice then to allow anonymous bits or not.
And be more open about your plans to deprecate bits or not. That sentence just added more fire to the rumor mill.

I’m interested to know how someone can abuse this feature?
Also, removing a feature instead of “fixing” the issue isn’t the solution. If it has a weakness fix it. Or like many have said. Give us the option to use it or not. -

Yeah no that answer ain't it. Removing a service for all when some are affected shouldn't be the jerk reaction. Instead; allow streamers to opt in or opt out of anonymous cheering.

You can set your own minimum number of bits per message per channel already. And people can't send messages with anonymous bits. And I believe you could always ban AnAnonymousCheerer if you didn't want them at all. (Altho a checkbox in the settings to disallow would still be better.) And Twitch always knew who was spending the bits even if the streamer didn't, so they can look into it if there's still somehow a kind of harassment happening after all that. So I'm not sure how removing the option for ALL streamers to receive them is required to increase 'safety', that adding an option for streamers to turn them off wouldn't accomplish better. Vague explanation about "safety" doesn't sound legit so far. Unless... you're planning to get rid of bits anyway. Then of course it makes sense to not add any new bits related features.

I'm a little confused how anon bits are being abused. And if this is the case, why not make "anon cheering" something an individual streamer can Enable/Disable? Disabling them globally is throwing the baby out with the bath water :(

Forcing attention on people who do not want it is not a good idea. It may stop them from helping the streamer in general. Make it optional, don’t make it mandatory.

Agreed with this. I like anon cheering sometimes for many reasons.

Let streamers disable anon cheering, but don't get rid of it entirely.

Please don't take away such an integral part of a lot of streamers income. Removing anonymity removes potential chances of gifting from those who prefer to remain anonymous

Instead of making the decision for creators, let creators have this as an option so they can make the decision that’s right for them and their community.

Please dear god stop giving strangers reasons to stop watching us or funding our lives. This is our job.

I like to remain anonymous at times. Don't force me not to be.

Please its already so hard to make a living on twitch, DO NOT take away anonymous bits OR subs!!!

Let us decide if we want to turn these settings on or off. I personally want to keep anonymous cheer and tipping on.i also don't like the whole taking bits away too and making it a donation instead.

Just let streamers be able to turn this on or off if they wish. Please don’t get rid of this. People have valid reasons for wanting to gift bits anonymously and they absolutely should be able to do so

Instead of just having account verification so you know who everyone on the platform is, you're taking away everything for the sake of a few trolls. You are letting them win. Require everyone verify their account, allow anonymous services to be used, and only identify the individual when you have to ban/suspend them for a terms breach. Stop punishing the majority that are doing nothing wrong.

There should be an option for the streamer if they want to have cheer anonymously as an toggle option instead of just getting rid of it completely

DeathbirdMoose commented
What, if any, would be the downside to anonymous donos of any kind? I don't get why they would remove the option.

please dont remove the anonymous cheer just make it a toggle option if anything not everyone wants their name to be said on stream for cheering or anything like that
