[Experiment] Making Cheering Easier
For a limited time, within a select number of channels, we’re testing a different way to Cheer through direct purchase Cheering.
Direct purchase Cheering allows you to unlock a fun community benefit through monetary payment, rather than through Bits. This experiment is only available to select creators and you must be located in the U.S. to participate. If you have any further questions please refer to our help article (https://help.twitch.tv/s/article/cheering-experiment-2022?language=en_US)
We look forward to hearing your feedback on this!

This takes away the fun of cheers. I like being able to buy a bunch of bits and spend them as I wish, with complete flexibility. I know that 100% of the bits post-purchase will go to the streamers, and this makes me feel secure in my purchase of these bits.
The new system asks to hit my bank account for every single cheer, which is so not cash money. It also significantly reduces the creative ability of cheers which could lead to a dramatic reduction of chat interaction on the platform. I certainly won't be buying into this.
This also seems like a grey zone opportunity you're pouncing on to hide just how much twitch takes. I can no longer see the ratio of $ to bits, because it's just $, and I have no idea how much of my cheer the streamer gets.
I will not cheer in a grey zone system like that. I enjoy knowing that when I donate bits, 100% of those bits go to the streamer, and I can pre-calculate those options and sit on a fun bits bank to spend on multiple streamers.
TLDR: It's a no from me.

I very much find the use of Bits important for my enjoyment of Twitch. I do not think Cheering is nearly as good, and I will spend significantly less money on this website if this change is made.

This system not only introduces unnecessary confusion for both parties, but also privacy concerns on top of that.
Currencies vary greatly in value, meaning that unless streamers build tools for converting currency values, or are already familiar with the specific currencies, they won't be able to tell how much was cheered.
Having the viewer's currency displayed also broadcasts the user's location, what may in most cases be undesirable, making viewers refrain from cheering altogether.
From the viewer's perspective, when you see a "direct cheer" it seems to imply the creator will get 100% of the value cheered, instead of 3/4 of it, specially when you could easily tell how much the creator is receiving with bits, the system this is supposed to replace. It would make a lot more sense to pay a fee upfront, and forward the full cheer value to streamers, as bits already does.
The fixed cheer amounts can discourage viewers from donating intermediate values, while also taking value away from the experience of using custom alerts for specific amounts, and now with no more cheer emotes. If the problem is the fact bits are technically just USD, a floating rate currency, being sold at a flat rate, just keep the current, much superior, bits cheering, and change the pricing scheme.

Firstly, this does not work for me. That being said, here's my reasoning:
-Separate alerts using bits creates a single currency that easy to use between extensions
-It was confusing at first for my community, especially not being to give certain amounts of "coin" (69, 420, 666, 777, etc.)
-Calling it "coin" sounds dirty to my viewers as per when I asked feelings within discord (reasoning: it's like I'm asking for money)
-Giving actual "dollars" or $ doesn't look good. It feels weird and unfun. Bits were fun
-Buying bits to give to people is easy and fun and feels like nothing because it's a MICROTRANSACTION instead of just donating money. Why use "coin" instead of just donating when "coin" takes so much more from me.
-I am reading that this "coin" doesn't affect hype trains... not great.
-I just need to reiterate that $ feels gross, buying it every time, at the time, deters people from giving "cheer coin".
-again, saying it feels super gross. Please remove me from this experiment. Saying I am "opted in" means nothing since I wasn't GIVEN THE OPTION.
I received an email with subject line "Try out a new way to Cheer" which implies bits are still a usable utility and not that I'm forced to do something. I never opted in for this and the SINGLE EMAIL SENT was arbitrary and honestly didn't even warrant me opening because it didn't trigger a curious look.Again, please remove me. I'll reach out tomorrow through twitter as well.

$5 benefit 10 viewers
$100 benefit 30 viewers?
basic math - return on investment - 3 separate $5 dono's to benefit 30 viewers at a cost savings of $85
I think your rewards need a rethink - it doesn't make sense the way it sits now.

This is one of the final straws for me... If you remove bits then I will just switch to YouTube (or another streaming website to stream). Whether I get paid to switch or not (I won't, I'm too small of a streamer) doesn't matter. It's bad enough you already removed 'Ads for bits' without listening to the community.
Also what happens to all the bit emotes if bits are removed? Do they just disappear or do the slots go to something else? How will this impact stuff like SoundAlerts and the custom bit alerts? (I had fun recording custom sounds for both SA and for certain bit quantities)
A lot of terrible decisions happening lately. Which is a shame because I really loved this site for streaming (both as a streamer and a viewer)
HOWEVER that being said... If you keep both bits and this, it won't be much of a problem (since it gives options). I just don't trust that you will keep both though. Even with negative feedback, you remove features users care for like "Friends list" and "Hosting" that won't be a thing in a few days.

I need bits so I can show support for my favorite streamer TOONXLY🤧

This is not the way guys. We do not want to have to donate a full amount of money to one streamer. We would like to be able to spend a dollar and spend the 100 bits upon multiple people if I want to. At least add a custom amount to choose so we dont have to spend a set amount on one person!

This is a terrible idea. Please don't make it permanent. Bits are such a good way to support creators. I like just buying them and Twitch getting a cut right then and there and then giving them 100% to creators.

islandpapa commented
I do not like this, as most of my content creators have fun responses to specific bit donations. It takes away chatters fun.

This change doesn't make any sense to me. Bits work perfectly fine, there is no need to replace them. People are already able to redeem emotes with channel points and the cheering emote unlock feature is honestly a bit confusing.
Don't fix what isn't broken.
The only thing we like is that cheering costs the viewer less then bits.
You could also just bring back ad viewing to get bits. That would be cool. -
Banthapodoo commented
How about we keep bits, allow people to spend them to promote subscribers by hitting a collective level then twitch discounts subscription costs for a limited time. Instant promotable event. Forget the emotes for non subs.

Absolutely terrible. I want to use the bits I already paid for, and I'm being forced to pay money AGAIN during this so-called eXperiment.

Hey, we've been testing the whole thing on our channel since the feature was available. My community has already used it several times and for the most part we just think it's great.
However, we noticed a problem: Unfortunately, you can't see who the lucky recipients are. With sub gifts you can see which people have received a sub. People using the new feature will feel better knowing that the emotes actually found a recipient. Also, if the donors choose a tier 2 or 3 emote, can only non-subs get it, or can tier 1 subs get it as well?
Another question is, if this feature is supposed to replace the bits, what happens to the bit emotes and what are the replacements for people who have already spent several $100s to unlock the bit emotes?
---
Deutsch:

This is a bad idea.
Why?
Will harden streaming for streamers who rely on random amount of cheers and built their channel around cheers. -
kumquat_tv commented
Absolutely terrible idea!!! Streamers should have to opt in!!! Just wrong of Twitch to implement this awful system on streamers that didn't opt in. It is just Garbage!!! Bring back the bit system ASAP. If a streamer wants it, make it an option, it should never be a replacement.

This somewhat de-incentivizes subscribing, and those subbed get less value for it. I want to sub to get my emotes and give a little extra whenever possible.
Subscribing is for regular, higher-value support, and bits and donations are for smaller, extra, random support of a streamer.
That being said, with the new shift in how you pay partners, I think it would be a good idea to lower the cost of bits for the viewer while maintaining the payout to the streamer.
This encourages viewers to contribute when they can, as it is more affordable, and gives individual streamers increased income without them having to run 6, minute-long, unskippable ads every hour in order to maintain their income and production value.
Viewers do not like ads. You'll notice that the general opinion and satisfaction of people with a service tends to decrease significantly when advertisement increases. So implementing some other way for streamers to maintain their income while taking a relatively small hit to Twitch's income would be a very good idea.
Reimplement bits, make them slightly more affordable, and do not cut from the content creators that make your platform what it is. -
