Support authentication methods different from Twitch
I realize that CurseForge is now essentially owned by Twitch, however I would like to share a story that removed a small part of this day's awesomeness for me, while it might have not, had authentication avoiding Twitch been available.
Planning to submit some content to CurseForge, I found out that I have to create a Twitch account to proceed. During that process, I was somewhat shocked by how the form only wanted my password once, but I've only considered that a very minor UX violation of not meeting the user's expectations.
I have thus proceeded, inputting my nickname, password and o2.pl-hosted e-mail address, got a nice green check mark signifying that the given data will be accepted, then I solved a captcha (captchas on almost all websites nowadays just accept me right away, the rest if not all of the bots can be easily filtered out by a honeypot field and some meddling with form names and placement), finally I clicked the mighty register button... ERROR EMAIL REJECTED BECAUSE REJECTED USE ANOTHER
Disbelieving this, I solved the captcha again, and pressed the button... Unfortunately, turns out that it wasn't an inside joke, something that could possibly be expected of a gaming-focused company, I got the same error again.
So I have to use my trash gmail dedicated to the very least trustworthy websites that will spam me every hour, which I don't thus even have connected to my email client... Fine! Changed the e-mail address, solved the captcha, clicked the button... ERROR YOU ARE REGISTERING TOO FAST WAIT AND TRY AGAIN
Multiple minutes later, success! I've managed to make an account! I get assigned a default avatar that makes my account look like one that of an idiot, certainly a good method to motivate people like me, who usually don't, to change avatars. But who cares, for now none of my mods have been released, so I decide to perform that chore later. Meanwhile I confirm that my trash gmail actually exists, and expect that I can now change my account's e-mail address to the one that I actually want to use, like any serious service would allow... Nope!
Okay, scratch that, at least this Twitch account management page lets me change the displayed name, a few qualities above some other websites I've had to sign up to! Type, type... ERROR YOU CANNOT CHANGE DISPLAY NAME ONLY THE CASE
If anybody at CurseForge is looking for the remaining reasons as to why people are reluctant to release their content there, here they are. Because I personally have no problem with keeping multiple accounts for services, I will consider this request invalid if all the above-mentioned issues with Twitch are resolved, however with my current impressions, I'd love to see CurseForge allowing any sort of authentication that avoids Twitch.
