normalize Ad volume with content volume
Not as frequently as before but still often, Ads play which are dramatically louder than the broadcast content. This is an annoyance, interferes with other people in the house, and frankly makes me more likely to mute the ad and go do something in a different tab.
Normalizing volume levels with stream average volume or peak volume wouldn't take a huge amount of processing power and would fix the problem entirely. It's required by the US's FCC in other broadcast mediums, but it's really just a quality of life improvement for the viewers and a mark of good production.

Setting this to a partial release status as the majority of ads on web and TV apps should now have normalized sound. We are still continuing the work on this and will update the status again when it is fully complete!

A loud preroll ad played while joining a new stream, I went to report it and the control overlay was not present. That means no reporting issues, no muting, nothing. It's laughable how little attention has been paid to fixing problems with the ad system, but even if we want to try and give you feedback on them, if the mechanism isn't there, we can't.

At first, it was that crappy dubstep-like musical diarrhea that threatened to reduce my ability to hear if I didn't take my headphones off. Now it's some idiot raging at a game, screaming in my ears to promote the same HP computer. Tell HP to stop making their ads so damn loud and fix this problem ASAP, it makes me want to start blocking ads again! I'm so avoiding this company from now on, that's how pissed I am.

Test ad volume with your own headphones because 90% of us use them while watching streams. Loud ads are becoming panic attack triggers!

It's so ridiculous to be laying down at 4 am watching twitch and suddenly a stupid AD comes up and makes me have to get up and run for the mouse to mute it and then having to explain to the roommate who woke up in the next room cause of this stupid issue that has been there for as long as ive been using twitch !!!!!!!.... ****IN FIX IT. it's been 4 yrs already *sigh... Stop with the incompetence already.
I can sympathize with ppl who use adblock just to avoid ur ****ed up ad system. -

80% of your ads are REALLY too loud! They're basically jumpscares and ear rapes at the same time!!! Especially that HP Omen's spot!!!

Please make volume lower than stream content so it becomes more equal with streams because ad people don't know how to preserve hearing on headphones!

After literally years of complaining about inconsistent and too loud ad volume, you run an ad for a twitch service that is just as loud or louder than anything else being shown at the time? How is that reasonable? Do you care at all about the ad experience for your viewers?

I have been reporting a Canon camera ad, because it is horrendously loud. Let's see how this goes.

Seriously Twitch, I love your product and don't mind you pimping your own stuff (its good; go for it) and disabling ad block. But your personal ad makes me remove my headset/mute everything because it is so loud. Please change this as hearing loss/damage is permanent and dangerous

Watching streamers who talk or play music have a set volume they project at. No ad should ever go past their highest levels of volume or else the viewer becomes frustrated with twitch(free version) and almost resentful as *their mood deteriorates due to the commercial/trailer hurting the ears. If its twitch's goal to promote subscriptions/turbo buy annoying the free customers then good job! but if not. I recommend allowing us to turn down or mute ads and I wouldnt even mind watching them at that point. Its only the volume problem thats annoying.

Need to normalize the ad sounds with in-game sounds otherwise I might poop my pants.

I agree with this in that there should be some sort of master auto ducking at the beginning of all volume variable state changes on the site. Going from channel to channel, the player keeps previous settings, but 75% can go from too quiet, to just right, to EXTREMELY EARBLEEDINGLY LOUD in a matter of 5 clicks. It's something I've come to expect, but it would be a relatively simple QoL improvement that would make the player more user friendly. This would be another QoL improvement with Ads that if they matched the relative volume of the what your video player is currently set at.
